It's the M1 chip and it says 3rd gen in the title.

Must have been an error on Costco's side.

For the people confused on which iPad Pro 11 generation has the m1, here's a comparison straight from the apple website.

I'm in the market for a 11" pro, but $50 off the lowest 11" model isn't the greatest deal. The good thing about Costco is they rotate the discounts to the other models they carry, so maybe the other storage options will get a discount in the upcoming weeks.

$100 off the MSRP

$50 off the Education Price

$30 discount on AppleCare

Means you are saving minimum $80 - $130 for the Pro + AppleCare+ ($800+tax)

Considering Apple sells the refurb 2020 iPad 11'' Pro (NO M1 Chip) for $610 + $130 AppleCare this is a great deal as you are getting a two year newer iPad 11 Pro for only $50 more than what Apple is charging for the 2020 Refurb

And before anyone comes in here and starts spouting off about how great the Walmart refurb deals are - just stop.

iPads are fragile, have had multiple issues across models, buying one without AppleCare+ is a super stupid move

Not really. Maybe you're too rough on them. I used to work for apple setting up repairs on iphones and ipads. I honestly can't ever remember ever setting up a repair for an iPad other than someone dropping it or spilling liquid on it. I may have set one up for wifi not working but usually a restore would fix that so I can't really remember a warranty repair on one. I set up tons of repairs for the iPhone other than accidental damage it was usually because a button stopped working, sometimes because wifi stopped working or the microphone wasn't working right. Obviously the iPhone outsells the iPad so I'll see more of those, but I just never saw iPads not working or breaking in the same percentages as the iPhone.

I've also had a number of iPads and never had an issue. I've definitely dropped it multiple times, hasn't broken yet. Any tablet can/will break though if you drop it.

Almost every MacBook has had a recall of some sort or common failure point so I would have agreed with you on MacBooks. But the real money makers for apple are reliable.

I feel like iphones are the only fragile apple product.

My rule of thumb with apple products is disable automatic updates and let the newest release marinate for a couple of weeks then see if people had issues with your model. I recall multiple instances where a normal os update bricked many ipads.

Other than that I think applecare is a waste if you aren't accident prone, don't have kids, and don't use it on like construction sites. Especially if you have a cover style case or magic keyboard. I've never known anyone as tragic with electronics as my mom (she's had phones run over by cars, left in taxis, fallen in toilets, inexplicable shattered screens), and she's been raw dogging (no case) an old 2014 ipad to work with minimal physical wear and only upgraded this year because it became unbearably slow.

Since 2008 I've owned 8 iPads, currently using a Gen 3 12.9" Pro. Never had a single issue even when misused, like an accidental drop from the bed. In that same time cracked many iPhones in cases. Buy AC if you like, but not buying it is far from being stupid.

Yeah Apple was very ridiculous with the naming. The original iPad Pro was the 12.9" released Nov 2015. They released the 9.7" in April 2016. In the June 2017 refresh they changed the 9.7" to 10.5" and released the pair as the iPad Pro 12.9 2nd Generation and iPad Pro 10.5 (with no sauce in the 10.5 name because you cant be the 10.5 Senior with no Junior). Then they doubled down on the absurdity in the Nov 2018 refresh with the 12.9 3rd Generation and the 11, and it has been a chore to figure out what specs you are getting in any iPad Pro deal ever since-- especially because that Generation had 6gb ram in the 1tb storage configuration and 4gb ram for all others.
