AllTrails has other features, too, like reviews and tips. And other things, I'm sure. But you don't need to spend a monthly or yearly fee to get offline maps to go hiking in places with no cell service.
For OsmAnd, the free version limits you to 7 downloads (ie 7 states). You can get the full version for free if you use F-Droid [f-droid.org], a curated app store that solely lists free and open source apps. Since OsmAnd is fully open source, they allow you to install the full version for free from their site or from F-Droid's marketplace. However, if you install it from Google Play, they charge a fee to unlock unlimited downloads.

Much better and more obvious name, IMO.
This subscription is worth it even for a single trip because of the offline maps, IMO. But I'm also curious about the alternative someone posted above.
