These are pretty well made. Quality costs. Cheapo smokers use thinner metal (less efficient, especially in cold weather) and don't really seal up well to control airflow which makes control difficult to impossible. They're also prone to hot spots. Cookers like this also hold enough fuel for 12+ hour cooking times which is really handy when you want to sleep overnight.
That being said, this design is based on the Ugly Drum Smoker. There are plenty of resources online to help you DIY one yourself. You only need a few tools and many people are able to scavenge the parts for free and nearly free builds.
The best cheap bbq cooker is a used Weber kettle though. 22s often sell used for about $40. Learn to use The Snake method for your charcoal and you can cook enough bbq for your family no problem. Plus you can use it to grill. and they're so well made they last decades with nothing more than an occasional part replacement.

Get it dialed in and you'll never go anywhere but your backyard for bbq (especially if you have some Joe's KC BBQ sauce!).
Great deal on a great smoker. True charcoal experience and I've got one basket of charcoal to last 16+ hours when it's stacked in.
i'm so tempted! I already have the Masterbuilt gravity series which I love! But wouldn't mind getting this OK drum too.
Can somebody tell me what makes this one better than the other ones that are cheaper? Target has a lot of them.
