Are the specs for the mini 3 supposed to be up to par with the air 2?

I think I read it will have a 2 axis gimbal so that wouldn't be competitive unless new tech allows it to be. Personally I think this is a great deal for anyone who finds the 2s too expensive. Both drones are the perfect size and fly amazingly. I have a 2 and a mini 2 and love them both. I want a mavic 3

What do you use two drones for? Curious.

Or wait until the FAA makes a list of Remote ID certified drones. By September 16, 2022 all drones >250g *must* include a certified Remote ID from the factory. By September 16, 2023, all drones must have Remote ID to legally take off.

https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_s...ne_pilots/

Near as I can tell, no drones have been certified (DJI Aeroscope is *not* FAA compliant in spite of what DJI fanboys say) and no Remote ID modules exist in the US. This is kind of astonishing given that the deadline is only 6 months away.

I am slow to spend a kilobuck on a drone when the manufacturer is just saying, "don't worry, be happy."

This right here. It doesn't help that the company also as the capability to ground (prevent takeoff) the device making no more effective than a kids toy.

Speculation is that it will have collision avoidance and 4k 60fps that the mini 2 currently does not have.

Bonus you don't have to register it with the FAA.

And it should be. There's leaks it is in April/May of 2022 but who knows how reliable. Either way unless you absolutely need a drone today it's worth waiting a month or two to see. Should have 4k 60fps and not be a FAA drone.

At this point, who knows. I grabbed a 2s fly more kit locally, second hand about a month ago, and it's fantastic. Can't really see any rain to upgrade just yet.

why does this keep coming up in the drone threads where people are simply trying to buy a good drone today to fly today? but this nonsense is continuously brought up. the law goes into effect on september 2022 for drone manufacturers only, it has nothing to do with drone flyers. manufacturers need to comply by september....or else...else what? in the meantime, drone flyers can keep flying for another year. common sense tells you if the drone manufacturers don't comply by september, the faa is not going to enforce part 2 of the law against the flyers. imagine if dot says no car can operate on teh road unless it has an government tracking device installed and all the car manufacturers say f/u...you think all the cars will be barred from driving on the street? common sense says if there are zero drones on the market with remote id (as there is today) then nothing can be enforced the following year. my guess is either delays or the rules will change but nothing is going to stop you from flying....buy the drone you want today.

b.s.

they cannot.

any manufacturer can brick an electronic device with over the air software updates but dji can no more ground a drone that doesn't have remote id, just like it cannot ground a stolen drone.

a manufacturer would be foolish to sell a piece of equipment and in a few years, disable it so it doesn't work claiming the law told it do so, in america they would be sued AND a lot of credit cards will be giving the money back. doesn't matter what the law says the government can't order businesses to disable drones, cars, boats, planes, etc. can the faa declare the entire airspace restricted and disallow all drone flights? yeah if you're in china or russia.

i think the mini 3 will be quite expensive. if you're new to drones, the air 2 is your best bet. if not, maybe wait for a few more months.
