I'm pretty sure this one has DRAM...

Pretty good price for a reliable beefy boot drive. Not the fastest, sure, but comparable to others in the 5500/4300 tier, and the TBW is higher than most.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to stick it in a PC to update the firmware before installing in a PS5?

Bought this for PS5. It claims read speeds of 3,800 which is well below advertised "up to" speeds. I am not returning as everything loads fine and it was cheap. I hope the drive doesn't die on me though. If I did it over again I would pay for the the higher quality drives.

Ps5 ssd speed test seems to vary a lot, tested two 1tb sn750 se, one was only ~3500 read (expected), while the other one was ~5000 read (way higher than expect). And some drives may not be as fast without an update of sorts (1tb 980 pro, 5500 read on ps5 and 7000 read on pc), but said updates only applies to pc.

It may be faster on the pc?

not sure about this one in particular, but i've seen other gen 4.0 pci-e nvme's see performance improvements with firmware upgrades. i think sabrent rocket was one of them. but either way, firmware updates *usually* improve performance, so i'd read up on the update and what it includes first

I bought the 1TB version of this drive for PS5 in November and my PS5 gave it 5100mb/s, but I also purchased a heatsink as well so it may have made some difference as the PS5 definitely does not have good cooling for the m2 slot.

I have the 1tb version and it's been reliable the last 6 months or so. It's nearly identical to basically every other drive rated at 5,000/4,300 mbs. Literally the same dram, controller and pcb layout.
One thing I would say is don't expect firmware updates. From what I can tell Inland doesn't even have the support structure to offer updates of any kind. Also, I've seen two examples of this exact SKU and the cache memory was a different brand on each. Kingston on one, SpecTek (Micron) on the other.

I have a 1TB 970 Evo M2 as my boot drive for the past years... things have certainly halved in costs compared to then, and gotten 20% faster.
I wonder if I should get this for my 2nd M2 slot on my motherboard... use it for some apps and what not. I'm fine with just waiting for better 2280 sales coming up... dreaming of an even bigger and faster M2 for $200.

I'm in a similar boat - though the NVME I'm rocking now is only 256gb and is ostensibly just a boot drive and nothing more.

My plan is to throw this one into my secondary M2 slot, and then when another sale pops up (or more dense storage is available for the money), I'll clone my 256gb to this 2TB and then replace the 256gb unit with the new one.

I dont think things will drastically cheapen until we start seeing pcie 5.0 drives or something way better than 3d nand or whatever the latest tech is. this is a great deal I'd grab it up!
