A few ways to fight crabgrass, but be warned...you will never be 100% rid of the stuff no matter what:

1) Keep the lawn dense - keeps out most weeds in general...if you ever see crabgrass thats growing in a middle of a pile of dirt...youll see what happens when theres no competition, lol.

2) Pre-emergent - the basic ones are things like Halts (which is in Scott's "step 1" fertilizer. Apply this (and the other pre-emergents like prodiamine) when land becomes consistently around 55 degrees. Use https://www.greencastonline.com/t...emperature or a cheap meat thermometer. Too early, and the stuff breaks down...too late, and the crab grass has already rooted. You wont see it until July, but when it comes...its horrible.

3) Post-emergent - Tenacity is the best in the business for this. Good video about this stuff - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWNM1Wafsvk Takes a while to work so dont expect this to work miracles right before that backyard party.

4) Just rip the stuff out by hand (it really isnt hard to pull off)

I have taken care of my lawn since day 1 of moving to my home, and it looked like a garbage dump in year 1. I am now in year 7, and the last remaining issue I have is grubs. But weeds and crabgrass gone!

As for other weeds, here are the common chemicals (all post-emergent):

1) 2-4D (the stuff in this SD) - good for general purpose broad leaf weeds...low toxicity so its hard to mess up using it. I dont recommend using 2-4D in granule form unless you can time the rain very well. It will not work on crab grass, and it wont work on poison ivy.
2) Tricloptyr - More expensive than 2-4D, works well on clover and woody weeds (rogue oak saplings, forsythia, etc)
3) Tenacity - The same stuff as mentioned above. Works very well, but it is expensive

Good luck!
Because they say it causes red tide. Which may be true. But when you see that all the waste dumped in the Tampa Bay area from all kinds of industrial regions, and the 3 counties around us that can use Scott's, and have it go into the same body of water... you think "that's definitely ridiculous. "

Also, a certain cult runs our County and their Alien Overlords might not bless their Dianetics with the Nitrogen in our fertilizer lol.
not to mention florida local and state govt has never seen a spot of land they wouldn't allow a development and increased density given some greased pockets.

Not related...but anyone know if something is wrong with Milogranite? My big stores nearby used to carry tons of it, as of last year until now, none of those store carry them anymore? And the reviews are always stellar.

Better stock this up in fall when prices drop under $18 for this same product. I have 2 years worth of weed without feed stocked at $3 for each 5000k coverage bag.

Was about to buy. Glad you were oddly specific on location bc I did not know this.

Also just saw this kills clover? I was under the assumption that clovers are good.
