Never seen Honma irons at Costco but seems like a solid deal

Looks like they are $999 at PGA Superstore

I don't know much about Honma, but I'd say for Japanese forged players irons (handicap ~10 or below) this deal is solid IF the set fits your game and sizing. Nothing is slick in golf if it doesn't fit you. Considering previous PXG iron deals, this deal isn't quite as attractive, but Costco's return policy is amazing.

Nice spot though, incase someone was specifically looking for Honma Player Irons.

The graphite shaft puzzles me a bit... is that a typical Honma trait? Most advanced golfers use steel shafts due to swing speed - perhaps these are designed for advanced golfers with slower swing speeds?

Don't be that guy
Honma is def one of the Premium brands, especially in Asia and EU.

The price here is not bad.

Their in-house Vizard has great/rave reviews.

However, due to its pricey nature, especially the graphite shafts options, they are usually left with excess inventory. I picked up both TW747 and J Rose proto on the bay when they were closing out for less than this.

Yes, most golf guys opt for the steel shafts, but graphite tech has come a long way, especially easier on the elbow as golfers age.

The 85g graphite is a good weight/feel, and less stress on the arm/back/elbow.
JDM clubs are simply amazing

As you said, nothing matters in golf unless the sticks work for you.

It looks like their in house brand 'Vizard' graphite shaft. Shaft wt. is 85, Reg or Stiff.

Well stated! Quality irons, but much more niche buyer profile than the typical beginner/intermediate player that buys the Callaway iron set sold by Costco.

You should try as many clubs as you can before you buy.

I didn't see an option to select shaft flex (house brand shaft or not). If they're selling these with a 'uniflex' graphite shaft, it's hard to call this much of a deal.

Like others have said, Costco's return policy is great so you can at least try them, but for $800 it would seem to make a lot more sense to buy a different name brand set that's maybe a model year older with a shaft/shaft flex you can pick to match your swing. Pricing would be similar.

Edit: scrolled down a bit and it looks like it's a regular flex shaft. Could be alright for some, but you're not getting much of a bargain over irons in the same category.

At this price point, you are better off with a direct to consumer brand like sub70 or new level golf. You are going to have more shaft options, etc. The Costco sets from callaway make sense for beginners but not for player irons.

Good thing about Costco is that you have 90 days and they will to take back anything. But as for golfers, you need to go try it or get fitted at a store.
