The star wars one is just as bad. I bought both the frozen one and star wars one 2 years ago as Christmas gifts for my kids. The problems we encountered were all in the app (the hardware itself was fine). We used an amazon fire hd 10 (2017 model)

This is basically a motion tracker and you use the app to program how you want the animation to respond when a specific motion is detected. You code using a visual programming language like https://scratch.mit.edu/ or https://developers.google.com/blockly.

The app was extremely unstable and would crash every 5-10 min, causing us to lose all our work and have to start over... which was extremely frustrating especially to younger kids. They gave up in frustration and lost interest after an hour and I returned them the next day.

I paid $30 each for them last time. Even at $10 today, based on our past experience, they are still not worth the money.

Fair warning that this works on only a small handful of devices. We have a Kindle Fire HD that we bought 1 year or so ago and it doesn't work because it is the "smaller screen model" according to the developers. The main issue is getting the device to sync and talk via bluetooth. Super big PITA.

Also does not work on MacBooks even though it says it will. When I reached out to developer their suggestion was to return these kits as they did not know when or if they would fix the issues

It does work on iPads (unless you have an "ancient" one) and the app is still available. Allegedly Kano is no longer supporting these devices so don't expect any app updates.

Is the Star Wars one any better? Frozen reviews are pretty bad. The irony is that I'm pretty sure this doesn't even work with the Kano PC that we own

Got the frozen one last time, and it really sucks. Very difficult to understand what to do, even for me, let alone the kid. And I consider myself tec savvy!

Better to wait until your kid has reached a certain age and provide them with better resources instead of these useless kid themed "tutorials" that they will either be too young to really get into or - if they're a prodigy - would find pointless. If your kid is the latter, I doubt you will need to provide them with any coding books or tutorials.

Borderline vaporware. Nice packaging, kid all excited to start it only to run into unavailable/uninstallable on Mac or google play dead end. Company selling light up hockey pucks with no intention of supporting it moving forward, buyer beware.
