for me too. I had 30+ tabs open on my 17" with no issues... but i am going to en code video on 1 of them and expect great performance... probably not



sadly, there is always going to be a balance between price, power, form factor


if you want the best price, form factor, you will be lacking power. if u want best power and form factor, then you'll be lacking price... same as you want best price and form factor, you'll end up with a powerful 7lbs machine

So I've tested it from 100% with Firefox on the entire time the laptop was turned on, with battery saver on and about 30% brightness (backlit was off). These were the intervals in which I used it:

100% at 6pm
84% at 9pm

84% @ 10:31 pm
67% @ 12:31 am

66% @ 8:45 am
37% @ 2:45 pm
10% @ 6:51 pm
7% @ 7:20 pm.

So from 100% down to 7% in about 15 hrs with browser on and no streaming. If this is how it always is I'm fine with it but if I were to turn on brightness to 70-80% and streaming youtube, etc, it'll most likely go down a lot. I think this is the first time I've gotten 15 hrs out of this recently bought laptop.

Picked up an HP Aero 5600U 16gb 1tb ssd 400nits 2560x1600 display for like 700 or 750 over the holidays. And I'm pretty sure that's the everyday price.

The 16" for $700 is a steal if you can accept and live with the non-upgradeable 8GB RAM. If I had not purchased the Gram 15 from Costco (same CPU but 16GB RAM with 512GB - $750) in Feb, would be torn about what to buy. The main draw is the display, of course. The increase in display size over the Gram 15 (15.6" actually) is negligible but the better resolution is noticeable and believe it is a slightly brighter screen though the Gram 15 is no slouch. The 256GB ssd on the 16" is easy to remedy by adding another NVMe stick but the non-upgradeable 8GB RAM makes you stop and think. As someone else pointed out, if all you are doing is office applications and websurfing, then 8GB should be sufficient. From personal experience, I tried using one of the Lenovo Thinkbook 15-G3 with only 8GB and didn't really notice any problems though didn't intentionally stress test.

IMO, the steep discount on the LG Gram 16 points out a serious product marketing mistake. Although it is unquestionably a premium laptop, at a certain price point, users will expect and demand a minimum "working" spec which the Gram 16 doesn't quite meet.

As stated earlier, would be torn about buying this if I didn't already have the Gram 15 (which is great - no regrets).

I'm in for the 16" black, perfect timing on this deal. My 4 1/2 yr. old Acer Spine 5 finally died a few days ago. This Gram has newer gen 8/256 as the old Acer so I expect a few good years of basic lapper usage .

White backlit is better than silver for sure. I'm not sure about the HP Envy line but you can customize an HP Aero with a white backlit keyboard for $10.

Anyone know of a good post regarding removing bloatware on the gram laptop? (any drivers or software I should be backing up or keeping?) I'm not sure if any of the LG utilities are needed for best battery life. I just got my new gram 16 booted up though and it has a number of random preinstalled apps - so I was thinking a fresh install of Windows might be in order.

Yeah, agreed. In general, it's bemusing how often laptops are specced with 8gb RAM. I think it's just so that 16gb RAM ones can still be sold at a premium as kinda "built-to-order" options.

Does a 4k variant ever go on sale? Most of the time my laptop is plugged in to dual 43" 4k monitors via Dell TB16 but I occasionally use the laptop on its own. Using an xps now, but really missing the keypad as most of my work is done in excel.

Or maybe someone has a recommendation for a 4k, TB3, 16" plus laptop with a number pad
