Nope - a $100 D-class amp and these RP-150m will noticeably better than those powered R-51PMs for the same price.

Granted the R-51PM is a complete DAC/AMP/Speaker system with AUX, USB, BT, Optical and Line inputs (GND for vinyl as well), it is a lower end speaker. Not just marketing hoopla, I've owned both.

When they say bookshelf speakers, does that mean they're supposed to actually be used on a bookshelf, as in raised above the ground? and if that's the case does it really make any difference in the sound quality?

usually it means 2 things (to me). much smaller form factor than floorstanding and to be used at year height with speaker stands (this could be book shelf or desk or something similar)

So not recommended to put it on the floor. Got it.

These sound lovely. I have a large great room (about 40x20) and use these as the fronts for my sound system. They get loud enough to fill the space unless you need to cause hearing loss.

As a pair of PC speakers, are the Klipsch "The Fives" that were on here for $500 worth the additional $$$ or are these sufficient?

I have two sets of these RP-150Ms in Cherry and one set of RP-160M also in Cherry. These are very high performance rear surround sound speakers when added to a surround sound configuration with a pair of towers and a center. They would also make for moderate Left Right mains in a smaller room. I have two sets at ear height level on stands used as surrounds and the other set I use as mains in my workout room. It fills a bedroom sized room with plenty of sound, no way I would go to full volume unless I wanted to rock the house. Klipsch speakers in general are very efficient and don't require a ton of power to sound great.

The Fives are not just PC speakers, they can be used for a TV or hook them up to basically anything that outputs sound. The Fives have built in amps, so no receiver required, but it will sound like it's powered by a receiver, they have god amps in them. At least that is what I have read in many reviews.

These RP-150Ms will require a separate amplifier or receiver.

So the question is will there be a separate amp that will rival or beat The Fives for $500

Let's say I pair this with

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=27222

This or "The Fives"?

I'd personally skip the tube amp and buy these with a home theater receiver or a much cheaper class D amp.
