If you want a bike that should be able to fly, go look at Yeti, Santa Cruz, or Pivot bikes...their cheapest models cost more than this and their bikes can get into the 5 figures
https://www.backcountry
(Notice that even that extremely expensive thing is almost completely sold out--only 1 medium left in stock).
For example, the Santa Cruz Hightower Carbon R build is pretty similar to the Intense 951 Trail in termps of parts and intended use. The Hightower Carbon frame alone sells for $3699, and the R build costs $5k (and is low stock/sold out most places).
For 5k, you get the same drivetrain, similar mediocre wheels (with an old-style hyperglide cassette), arguably worse brakes, similar-level suspension...but you do get a prettier paint job and the Santa Cruz name.
But Intense is not some no-name chinese company. They are a real CA based bike company and are standing behind the 951 brand and offering a 5 year warranty.
Plus you've got the added bonus of the Costco return policy. If you have a problem with the bike and Intense won't help you out to your satisfaction, costco will take it back any time.

Held off on posting the deal until I was sure everything was ok after last time…last time they had a full size run in stock, I ordered an XL and then posted the deal.
Costco shipped me a Medium and by the time it arrived, the deal was on the front page and sold out. Been waiting for months for them to come back in stock.

good bike for the price, better than similar trek/specialized for $3500. sucks they raised the price though.

Tiny gripes: wanted a bigger front disc, dropper doesn't seems as buttery smooth as my aftermarket PNW, bottom bracket guard isn't attached with great adhesive, tires are okay but could be wider. Minor stuff.
One final anecdote, but I'm not sure I blame Intense: on a recent climb, I shifted straight through about 3 gears to my climbing gear and it hopped the cassette and the derailleur went into the spokes. Seems like an adjustment issue, and the derailleur is SRAM (so obviously not Intense's product) so I figured I should have checked the adjustment more frequently. It had been shifting fine previously for several months. Slightly bent the derailleur hanger

It sold out real quick at that Christmas price, so why wouldn't they try to get a bit more for it in-season?
