You can connect a $20 Apple TV gen3 or any number of similarly priced Bluetooth receivers to this for wireless audio. It won't sound any different than if it was built in.
Anyway, there are so many good older used "$1000" AV receivers sitting in thrift stores for $20-$40 that would be audibly indiscernible to this. They are probably even more powerful than this one.
No, they likely won't have HDMI. Just plug your sources to the tv and connect the optical out from the tv to the older receiver.
I actually just saw an Onkyo with HDMI in a rescue mission thrift store this week for $45. It was a later generation model with the slightly concave faceplate rather than the earlier models that had the infamously bad HDMI boards.
I'm currently using a $9 Sony "ES" AVR in my bedroom system that I picked up from goodwill. It was missing its volume knob which I replaced via eBay for like $15. Built like a tank and works perfectly.
We have a projector with a single HDMI input mounted high up on the wall on the opposite side of the room from all our input devices, so the receiver pretty much runs the show.

Any feedback on AVR-S750H - Refurbished? Is it Denon refurbished in general or just that model?
But if you're capable of doing extensive research on your own; perhaps you'll get fortunate.

Just an FYI...

Voxx owns Onkyo, Pioneer, Klipsch, Energy, etc etc. I wouldn't be shocked if the new pioneer and Onkyo AVR's are very similar inside.

"Kinivo HDMI Switch 4K HDR (3 Port Switch with TOSLINK Optical SPDIF, 4K 60Hz, HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, High Speed-18Gbps, Auto-Switching, IR Remote)" on Amazon. $69
A 3 input hdmi switcher with optical out that goes to the non-hdmi receiver.
I own a projector, but I pretty much stream all my content from either full bitrate blu ray rips on my plex server or from online sources. So I essentially have 1 source...my Apple TV.
