Been looking for a good AV receiver for a while now and I found this one first on AMAZON for 223.20 + tax comes to 238.82 but takes a long time... so I went with the DENON version at the bottom.

Just an FYI... Smilie

You can connect a $20 Apple TV gen3 or any number of similarly priced Bluetooth receivers to this for wireless audio. It won't sound any different than if it was built in.

Anyway, there are so many good older used "$1000" AV receivers sitting in thrift stores for $20-$40 that would be audibly indiscernible to this. They are probably even more powerful than this one.
No, they likely won't have HDMI. Just plug your sources to the tv and connect the optical out from the tv to the older receiver.
I actually just saw an Onkyo with HDMI in a rescue mission thrift store this week for $45. It was a later generation model with the slightly concave faceplate rather than the earlier models that had the infamously bad HDMI boards.

I'm currently using a $9 Sony "ES" AVR in my bedroom system that I picked up from goodwill. It was missing its volume knob which I replaced via eBay for like $15. Built like a tank and works perfectly.
Unfortunately; this model has a poor track record as a refurb/renew, which may supersede networking options for most.
That works if you have a TV with multiple inputs.

We have a projector with a single HDMI input mounted high up on the wall on the opposite side of the room from all our input devices, so the receiver pretty much runs the show.

Nice idea ! I'll have to go to a local goodwill to see what they have.

I definitely wouldn't buy anything not HDMI for me though

Good luck! Smilie
Finding one with HDMI would be nice, but unless you need something "better" than digital 5.1 from the TV's optical output, you should be good with a non-hdmi avr. You either use the TV itself as the hdmi "switch" or pick up an inexpensive hdmi switch from Amazon if your tv doesn't have enough hdmi source inputs Smilie
