This is a HECK of a deal!! Besides the price. The new model 5420T isn't made in Korea anymore. Also no rosewood fingerboard. New models are made in China and use a cheaper laural fingerboard ( cutting costs). Quality certainly won't be as good on the new editions and already these are starting to increase in price on the used market.

These are Fabulous Guitars for the money.

Learn your build areas throughout the world. Korean made Guitars on a whole are much better than China, Indonesia etc. In Asia the only better builders are Made in Japan.

I'd take the Electromatic Gretsch over any similar priced Epiphone.

However that's personal opinion and what style guitar one plays.
Fairlane blue for starters, new blue finish is "azure blue". Rosewood fingerboard, new is laurel. Blacktop filter-trons instead of the new pickup, FT-5E. Serial number beginning with KS.

Have this exact guitar... I like the way it plays and sounds. Comfortable and looks nice. Pickups are kinda quiet if you're not familiar with the style.

My only gripe is that it doesn't stay in tune particularly well... Pretty unstable... Might just be the bigsby

A roller bridge and Big Bends Nut Sauce goes a long way to keeping tuning more stable.

Smokin' deal. I bought the solid-body Electromatic Bigsby version in orange 2 years ago. For the money, the craftsmanship is impeccable. My buddy has guitars that are $1200 and up and I'd say the quality of the Electromatic series is in the same league.

Korea??? China??? How is this a good deal?? I would recommend a gretsch that is not made in Korea or China. If you want something from Korea or China just get an epiphone or a squier.

Korea's been a top import maker for years. If the 5420T is this price and still made in Korea, it's a rather good price. Korean makers have moved up the scale these days.

How do you know if this is a new model 5420 or an old model?

I find it funny how many guitars with bigsbies sell, when I have only seen a limited number of musicians really know how to use them. It seems like it's become a bit of a fad. That being said, beautiful guitar.

In my experience, the most useful thing for a guitarist can have to improve tuning stability is a good set of nut files. The Hosco set runs about $60. I've bought a lot of new and used guitars, and it's crazy rare to get one with the nut slots cut deep enough or that are not pinching the string.

Two ways to test. Going into a tuner, play an open string. Then play at the first fret. If it's sharp, your nut slot isn't right {assuming the intonation has been set correctly}. Also you can check if it's binding by pushing a string down behind the nut, then see if it comes back to the same pitch when released.

I also use the nut sauce.
