To simplify, all modern phones have GSM because 4g and LTE are GSM based technologies, so even Verizon needs to have GSM in order to use 4g and LTE, but they'll use CDMA for phone calls and anything else that goes over 3g or 2g, though I'm pretty sure I read that Verizon is shutting down 3g CDMA at the end of this year.

What you want to do is look at the specs of this phone and find the bands that it is capable of using.

Then Google your carrier and see what bands they use. You can typically find a coverage map that will show you which bands are most prevalent in your area and as long as this phone has those bands you'll be fine.

If you use tmobile, then you definitely want to check this info out because I doubt this phone has band 71, which is exclusive to tmobile and a lot of people get their LTE and 5g service over band 71.

Once the phone is unlocked after 60 days, you can use it on any carrier you want but you want to make sure you have the correct bands for your carrier, otherwise you may get poor reception.
Motorola Moto G Stylus (2021) with security updates until January 2023. The latest version of Android is actually Android 12. This phone comes with Android 10 and is only upgradable up to Android 11.
I just got this phone a couple weeks ago for about $20 more. It has Android 11, Security Patch January 1, 2022.

When it is unlocked after 60 days, is it also then GSM for metropcs? And is this the 2021 model with Android 10 the last version of Android?

Need a phone for metropcs, can wait 60 days, is their a reason not to get this one?

After the increasing problems with TF and their sister companies, I would not spend another dime with them.

How would this work if I bought this for Verizon? I sign up with TF for two months, and then what?

They have several other phones for $99 too if you look at the bottom under "More Choices".

Also pay attention to whether the included firmware enables VoLTE for t-mobile. Some carrier version phones deliberately disable VoLTE for other carriers. ATT and t-mobile are phasing out 2G for calling so your phone must have VoLTE function provisioned for calling. Usually it can be enabled by flashing retail unlocked version firmware, which requires unlocked bootloader. As far as I know, tracfone moto phones are not eligible for bootloader unlock.

I would suggest you wait to see someone tries it on t-mobile (after unlocking) and confirms it has VoLTE provisioned on t-mobile.

Good info! I live in the country and looked at the metro coverage map. As of now, no 5g here. In nearby areas, a few miles away, it is available. This phone does appear to have band 71 but is not 5g capable. The Moto Stylus 5G model is.

If Im reading this correctly, it does have VoLTE on metropcs. But perhaps it does need different firmware... I have rooted and unlocked bootloaders in the past. Kind of tired of that crap.
