That said I just sold a home with 2 zones: 2nd floor, and pfin basement/1st floor - forced air. Such a temperature disparity wasn't really a problem for us and I had 2 Sensi ST75's.
Real shame is FL, where monopoly power companies continue to flex political muscle to push prices to some of the top in the nation and stamp out consumers ability to control costs with renewable energy.
Yes such tstat deals are always available to some extent, although in the past (CT/Eversource) I have gotten Sensi ST75 (the nicer touchscreen model) for $15/ea, and Google Nest/Home Mini "bundles" for $5/ea. You just have to wait around for the promotion stack ups. Occasionally they will also have deals on other items like light bulbs or air purifiers. I got a couple bundles of LED bulbs and desk lamps for $5/ea, and Winix air purifiers for $80/ea (retail was $200+). I haven't seen those deals come back though.
In my previous home with the ST75's I enrolled in Eversource's Connected Solutions - which is where they can resource level (control your tstat) in the summer - $25 to enroll and $20/tstat/season (Amazon GC). Easy $40/yr with basically zero inconvenience for me.
In the new place I have forced water (boiler) and it's older so the ~ 5 zones don't have C wires, but I'll eventually rewire these locations and use smart tstats there as well, perhaps the Google Nest's I have kicking around.

CMAFR. I live in CT and pay nearly $0.25/kWh (taking into account ALL charges on the bill not just generation and delivery). Even if I use the Google, I get current average CT price is $0.216/kWh and FL is nearly half that at $0.1137

But that's not what I paid... I paid $33 for 41kwh.
