If you are ok with the gamer cosmetics this is probably as cheap as it gets for a real MX switch KB.

Comes down to preference but comparatively I'd say clicky blue is closer to the older boards. Linear reds for me are too "light" and cause me to make plenty of typing mistakes. I'm a touch typist and prefer heavier linears , or tactile. I even like clicky as well. Problem with the major gaming brands is they don't sell the more niche switches. They typically offer the Cherry MX red, brown, or blue and that's it. Mechanical keyboards are a rabbit hole of a hobby. Just stop by r/MK lol

not a bad deal at all, even just to harvest switches, but I have to say many of the clone switches are starting to be a lot better than the original stuff. this would be fine for a cheap keyboard but new mx reds are really scratchy and they honestly suck to use. the gateron linear switches are much smoother out of the box.

How is it for touch typing compared to the classic IBM/Lenovo KBs? I know Cherry for reliability but don't know "the feel" of this KB. Thanks!

My son loves to bang on these. He's 10.5 months. I think I'll get one.

These are linear, so should be better for touch typing than blue/browns that are more clicky and require a bit more force. It is only $40, take a flyer and try it out, if you don't like it BB is easy to return.

What is the color of backlit lighting? Is it red?
Can the color of the backlight changed?

I'm not looking for RGB but something brighter than red.
