Seems like a solid deal. Backlit keyboard, 300nit 1080p IPS screen and RAM expandable to 20GB according to Crucial.

How does it compare to this recent deal? Looks like less RAM but you can upgrade which is nice. Outside of that, they seem pretty similar spec wise.

Just got the $329 Gateway that has more RAM and storage. Very fast laptop, but I'd think that this Lenovo would have better driver/warranty support later on, backlit keyboard is a plus, as is bigger screen. Thoughts for $120 more? Better yet, thoughts for $90 more if I go the open box route?

plus the screen brightness and accuracy is also huge factor between the two, so i would get a brighter screen.

Is the HDMI port 1.4 or 2.0?

I usually keep my screen at like 30% brightness, so I don't care so much about that. Not sure about how accurate the Gateway but the colors do pop on it well.

Looks awesome and sooooo close to pulling the trigger. However- couple Best Buy reviews are knocking the charging plug/port and that really honestly might be a deal breaker for me. Wonky charging? Really?? Anyone with this laptop that can convince me to still purchase it… since it has all the specs I need for a replacement laptop for my wife!!

You left off that the Gateway has a 512 SSD vs 256 for this.

Also, the Gareway has 16mb RAM vs 12 for this. I get that this one is upgradable for RAM, but that to get this one to the same RAM you need to add in 4 mb. People act as if RAM is free. I don't know what it costs, but it isn't free.

The differences between this and the gateway are a bit more than you acknowledge. Personally I'm thrilled with the gateway, however it is a refurb and there is the risk of how long it will last.

Was the charging port and plug really that bad… or manageable? One review on BB website has me scared that it's going to be crummy and fail.

I don't recall it standing out honestly,.. pretty generic looking charger, you could always try to get a openbox and return it if you don't feel confident

Well, I mentioned it did have more RAM and storage lol. I agree, I'm very happy with it as well. I installed Steam and it handled some low-end games just fine. Battery is solid too.

Which Gateway did you get, from where, and for how much?

Thanks OP. Was looking at something in this size (wanting 15.6") and rough specs (>8mb DDR4, and SSD at least 256), with the inputs / outputs this one has, for the wife's kitchen machine. Thought I was going to be between 5 and 600, even after trolling SD for a couple weeks.

Pulled the trigger and in-4-1. Thanks again, and TU.
