I went to public schools, so I don't math so good. But 3 lines are $5 cheaper than 2. 4 lines same price as 2

International data comes out of your regular plan...so if you are unlimited, its full 5G at unlimited (50G max before restriction)...I am in AU right now, and my FI phone just works. I have been in many countries in this trip, and FI as just worked everywhere, whereas my TMobile line needed added plans to get high speed international, and its expensive. FI wins by far on this one. I am using my FI phone as my music streamer in the car, and my GPS phone, and burning through data but not worrying about it. Its great.

It's individual per the FAQ

"What if an individual on my plan needs significant amounts of high speed data?
If you use more than 15 GB of data on Flexible, more than 35 GB on Simply Unlimited, or more than 50 GB on Unlimited Plus in a cycle, you'll experience slower speeds (256 kbps) above those respective data thresholds until your next billing cycle begins. For reference, only 1% of Fi users ever hit 35 GB in a cycle.

If you need significant amounts of high-speed data, you can opt to pay $10/GB for the data you use past the data threshold for your plan in a given cycle (15 GB for Flexible, 35 GB for Simply Unlimited, or 50 GB for Unlimited Plus).

These data thresholds are based on individual data usage, not group data usage."

The 480p video streaming is the main downside I see to the unlimited data. My grandfathered TMobile gives me highest quality video.

"What is the video streaming quality on my plan?
Google Fi's goal is to optimize all streaming video. On Flexible, video streams at the rate determined by you and the application provider. On Simply Unlimited or Unlimited Plus, Fi attempts to optimize video by streaming at up to 480p (standard definition). Video from some content providers may not be automatically optimized on Simply Unlimited and Unlimited Plus. If you're a content provider and your video service is not automatically optimized, please contact us at [email protected]."

It ultimately comes down to how much data you use and how much further you want to save. I was on Fi's pay as you use plan for years -- and rarely used more than 3GB a month. With taxes and fees (CA), my bill was roughly $25/mo, which is still $7-8 more than Mint (currently on this, no complaint). Yes, Mint plan is limited, but since I never need more data (chose the exact plan after studying years of my own usage), I'd rather be frugal and enjoy the savings.

Wish they could make like $100 for the 4 lines with at least couple gigs of international roaming. I would totally switch from Metro and pay taxes on the plan.

I'm not certain. I think it depends on the tax amount on fi and which data plan is desired. It seems like they're just offering slightly different things for premium data and hotspot. I have 8 lines of magenta for 240/mo. I guess if we could get by on 35gb of premium data, rather than 100gb, we could get simply unlimited. But we'd also lose international text and data, and if taxes/fees on GF are 10/line, it'd be the same price... Seems like TM is better for many lines, high premium data. GF is better for less lines, much lower data needs, and international data speeds.

I've had Fi for almost 2 years now. Other than terrible customer service, which in truth you almost never have to deal with them, Fi is terrific. No complaints. And if you are on the fence, you should give it a try.

Fi is great if you're not a heavy data user and are willing to keep the same phone for a few years. I work from home so i use wifi mostly. My monthly bill for 2 phones on the Flexible plan is usually in the $60 range including tax. I love having the ability to connect instantly to data when I'm abroad as well. The unlimited plans are not as good of a value in my opinion.

I just left Google Fi for Visible and Tello if anyone needs advice. I liked Google Fi but the price still isn't competitive for my family to switch back.
