Prices are better on www.creality.com & I was not charged sales tax (I guess they are shipping direct from Asia?). No idea what the leadtime is ordering from this website though.

Can anyone recommend a 3D printer for 15yo who wants to get in to cosplay? I don't want one that I will need to update quickly.

The Ender 3 S1 is a solid printer once you update the firmware from stock (bugs galore). Otherwise it's comparable in performance and reliability to the Prusa MK3S+ at half the price. I have 4 S1 and one S1 Pro in my farm now and no issues yet with several 12-58 hour prints on them and several hundred hours total. I just bought 3 more during the Creality.com sale. That said, with cosplay you need a larger printer like the CR-10 line. The CR-10 Smart Pro is like a larger 300mm x 300 x 400 Ender 3 S1 Pro (220 x 220 x 270) as they share parts and design but is ~$799. Definitely wait for a sale if you go for that one.

The Anycubic Kobra Max is new and a better deal for a large printer at 400 x 400 x 450 for $569, and has excellent reviews so far. I can't think of a larger commercial printer, though there are some open source printers like the Rat Rig V-Core 3 that gets up to 500mm³, but are ~$2k to build.

Thanks so much. The large ones are a little out of my price range so I went with the CR-6. I hope that will be suitable for his needs.

is it really that much improved over the standard Creality protocol of tinkering for days to get a good print?

the prusa is overpriced. its like the Apple of the 3d printing world. You're paying for tech support and stuff upfront. Granted its a good printer but it shouldnt be 1000$. lol.
for those in the know...
ender 3 pro good VERY basic printer that needs a lot of upgrades.
ender 2 pro good small printer (just needs a metal extruder upgrade)
ender 3 s1 best printer creality has made yet out of the box. doesnt need anything

I guess it really depends on what you're buying and how fast you want to get it. Looking on the site the prices are the same but shipping was free you are correct for the s1 pro for instance. However it also says it's going to take at least 30 days from time of payment completing to ship out. Or the other one is 8 to 10 business days. So I guess if you're chomping at the bit and you want to get rolling the other side is going to be faster. But if you're being more frugal which I mean you are on slick deals LOL then this said you mentioned maybe the better choice. In any case I'm sure everyone here appreciates you sharing so thank you.

store.creality.com must have had a lot of US stock when I ordered - I placed the order on 4/9 and it arrived on 4/15.

If I had kept my order on SainSmart, idk if my order would have arrived by now.

I have coupons for the comgrow website, and they ship out of Texas usually and still no sales tax.
ps- creality just announced the "Ender 3 S1 Plus". 300x300x300. :3
