I'm a member of a few book clubs. We all switched over to ebooks when the libraries shut down for the pandemic. Most of the books we read are 99 cents or free with kindle unlimited and I'm happy to share these recommendations with you!
1) Sound of Wings -
NLA
Recommended by my bestie Kay, this novel is about three women who come together to deal with personal struggles. The characters are well written and you'll grow to care about them like you've known them for years. That's sharp writing and the main reason why my group liked this book!
2) Unwanted -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KCL7C13
This one is a classic Western novel by a well-established author. It brings together a couple "unwanted" people - characters who nobody else seems to love or like. The thing I liked about this book was the time period and the setting. I won't say I loved the plot but I like Westerns overall so this one was an easy choice for me.
3) Starship for Sale -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VBGTKVW
This one is very new but already getting RAVE reviews from sci-fi fans like my son. To be honest, I haven't read it yet buy my son thinks it's the new book of the year. Again, he's a sci-fi nut so if you like the genre check out this one!
4) Stories Untold -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075PD7SZH
This book came out a few years ago - it was on our list awhile back and we all agreed that this book is "important". Not only is this a solid thriller (no spoilers please!) but the main character deals with some serious personal troubles. If you know any veterans then check out this book. It delves into some subject matter that we should all understand better. Plus it's just a well written thriller.
5) Berlin Embassy -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S3DL77J
This book is a great bit of history. It's a detailed journal written by an employee of the US Embassy in Berlin in 1939 - 1940. Can you imagine? This was at the start of WWII. Germany had already invaded Poland. Hitler was at the height of his power. So this book gives a very interesting and realistic sense of life in Germany at the time. It's not a history book but instead documents one man's view of Germany at the time. An important read for any history buffs out there!
Here's a few old favorites. Can't believe these are still 99 CENTS after all this time. Be sure to grab some of these before the price goes up.
6. Last Train to Cairo -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093YSBCD7
I just read this ebook for the second time, and I gotta say I still love it! This travel memoir tells the story of a couple's journey across Egypt after the revolution. Let's just say the trip doesn't always go right but the author is very open about what they see and do. They make a few bad choices but move forward anyway. The author's prose captivates with vivid descriptions and engaging dialogue. It's NOT a travel guide but you'll learn what it's really like to visit the pyramids and many other sights.
7. Don't Lie to Me -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PP9N4D8
Wow, my book group loved reading this book. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it a good read? Heck yah! It's not Silence of the Lambs level of FBI procedural but its got good characters, mystery, and suspense. This is Book One in a series but you can read it as a standalone. No cliffhangers to force you into reading the whole series (unless you want to!).
8. The Good, the Bad, and the Pugly -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S9VZZ63
Ok, this has the cutest title ever and that's all I needed to know when my club picked this ebook a couple years back. I love the setting and the premise and the characters. As I often say, this isn't Shakespeare, it's not Harper Lee, and it's not gonna change the world. But what a fun read! This is book 1 in a short series, and like a lot of books I post here, they're all FREE with Kindle Unlimited. Hope you love it.
9. The Hidden Hand of Death -
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086T371T7
Another great mystery and murder book series. Start here with Book 1. Setting is World War 2 in New York City. There are Nazis and Mobsters and Bad Cops and Good Cops and great moody settings and characters and dialogue. It's like reading your fave film noir or TV detective. A short book you'll finish in a couple hours and move on to the next I bet. There are 7 books in the series they're all 99 cents each so the price is right.
10. Lay Me to Rest -
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07235NKWT
We picked this one for our group a couple years ago. It's a haunted house mystery that takes place in Wales. The setting is gorgeous, the story moves quickly, and the ending is worth the wait. Not something I typically read in summer but if you're looking for a chilling read here you go!
Note to mods: Please don't make this a frontpage deal. I like it just the way it is

But I've been using slickdeals for years to find coupons and this is my way to give back for all the good deals I got here over the years.

The mods like to move popular deals to the Front Page which sounds really cool, but when they move the deals, they use a simple list format. So, the deal posting loses all the formatting and descriptions I write...!
I appreciate the fact that many of my deals are popular, but a lot of people enjoy the blurbs.
So now I always ask the mods (politely) not to move my posts to the Front Page
I'll post another list of 99-cent ebooks in a few days.
Till then, remember that the other 9 ebooks in this list are still 99 cents and most of these ebooks are FREE with kindle unlimited. Can't beat that.
I posted a new thread with more 99 cent ebooks. Some great titles in there. Take a look:
