It's super easy to write off the importance of a carbon monoxide detector.

A few years ago, I kept getting sick anytime I went to downstairs to work in the basement. I joked that it was a CO leak, and figured my headaches and exhaustion were just from getting stressed.

It was carbon monoxide. Turns out the person who had come to work on our furnace accidentally detached the vent or something of the sort. We got off lucky.

Make sure you have CO detectors.

I bought one of these for my daughter when she bought her first house. I got a call from her a few months later saying I had saved her life.

The one I had gotten didn't give a readout and she thought it was defective as she couldn't reset it or turn it off. She had a mild headache, so finally did call the fire department and they told her the CO was so high that even if she had been able to go to work that morning, she would not have woken up after going to sleep the next night.

It turned out that her downstairs roommate/tenant had used the fireplace (in spite of being told not to use it) and the CO was coming from there.

The older I get the more I am liking to hirer a professional to do work as such. The older I get after watching them work I say I should of just done it myself.

In case you are looking for battery operated, try this two pack at HomeDepot, which comes out to about $16/unit. Amazon sells for $26.95/each

Is 71 the real price? A combo smoke and co alarm usually goes for like 30-40. Is it just 71 bc it's plug in vs hardwired?

I'm pretty confident that my CO Kidde saved my life about a month ago. The loud alarm woke me up in the night and wouldn't turn off. I realized that I left my stovetop on, and I assume the CO was building up throughout the night

So this is only needed if your house has natural gas correct?
No. Oil burning furnaces produce CO as well

Pretty sure this was $15-25 range when we bought one at Walmart a couple months ago.
