If Lowe's is the only option in your area this isn't horrible, but I wouldn't recommend it to my family members. I got a Porter Cable set like this a number of years back with 1.5 li-on batteries. That size of battery isn't going to do much at all for the circ saw, it'll be a frustrating experience. The flashlight is a meh item, i wouldn't count it as a tool but I also like flashlights so to each their own. Drill/Driver I'm sure is fine and do well on 1.5ah, the recip saw will cut a handful of tree limbs on a 1.5ah. So i'm really valuing this a 2 tool kit with drill + recip + 2 low ah batteries, and you have a circ saw that'll work if you want to buy a larger 3 or 4 ah battery later.

Other big issue is I wouldn't sink my money into a system like this when there are Ryobi sets that are comparable, with WAY more tool options and plentiful batteries. I bought this kit for my dad last week: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../309677402 . It's a Drill + Circ saw, but as a free gift I bundled the 4.0ah battery. That combination of small + big battery really cover you much better for future tool additions. If B&D subbed the circ saw for a impact driver this deal would be MUCH more valuable IMHO and useful for an entry level set.

It's been a while and my memory is fading, but I believe that the only Craftsman tool these batteries would be compatible with is the Craftsman Bolt-On. Current 20v and V20 are different formats.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about that - but users should verify compatibility before purchasing for that purpose.

Yes, that is correct. The latest Craftsman 20v is NOT compatible with Portal Cable/Black & Decker 20V. Portal Cable and Black & Decker 20v are interchangeable with a little mod. I have all three 20v brands.

it's an ok price for this kit.
years ago, I got the kit with 1/2" drill/driver and fast charger for $80.

Now it has the weaker LDX120 3/8" drill/driver and a slow charger.

Wished there were more tools that use this battery go on sale.

These batteries work with craftsman 20v without any modification. Also, if you buy a craftsman bolt-on or black & decker matrix drill, those are all interchangeable. Porter cable tools work by cutting away plastic notches in the tools.

That's more versatility in a battery than any other tool set as far as I know.

Edit: Based on other comments, it seems that only older craftsman 20v bolt-on series drills work as stated above.

I was watching project farm put circ saws through their paces. While the expensive ones did very well the cheap ones did ok too. Considering I have a table saw and compound miter saw I really only need a battery circ saw once or twice a year. This deal here with batteries seems to be the perfect solution. Thanks OP.

The circular saw is weak because it cannot finish cutting a 5/8 thick plywood.

I definitely agree the circ saw is going to be useless / or at least VERY frustrating & somewhat dangerous in this set. I bet the saw is probably fine itself, but it absolutely needs a much bigger battery to work correctly. These demand 4ah + batteries to really work as intended, and I don't even know if B&D makes a 4ah battery (I definitely wouldn't sink my $ into it if they did).

One of those things, the tool itself is likely decent (saws are very difficult to screw up design wise) but they definitely are not bundling it with something that can power it correctly. It has the left blade design which I'm a big fan of myself as a right hander, but then has to be undersized @ 5.5 inches due to power issues which is a bummer. I'm a much bigger fan of 6.5 inch versions when they need to scale down a bit, more blade options and at least you can cut @ 45 degrees if needed (usually). I don't think it'd have a chance of getting thru 2x material at a bevel (not talking power here - just depth of cut limitation of the small blade).

I bought this years ago..got the blower and the impact and trimmer...should have gotten the porter or ryobi. Circular saw is ok with a larger battery and came in handy cutting some 2x6 boards this year.

Just don't.

The fact that they give such small batteries with a circular saw proves B&D aren't really trying to market effective tools.

The latest Craftsman 20V tools are actually called "V20".
Shouldn't be that hard to differentiate.

As others have mentioned the lack of available battery sizes have made me abandon my home usage Black and Decker Tools both cordless yard and cordless DIYer tools like in this set. The only higher capacity battery Black Decker makes is a 3.0 ah for about $65-75! Crazy! I have transitioned to the Ryobi Lineup as replacement. I do still use my Black Decker Stick vacuum in the home however I purchased a battery converter that allows me to use my Dewalt 20v as I was always having to switchout the low 1.5 ah B&D battery within 10-15 minutes of vacuuming!
