Wow, this reminded me of this blast of the past deal:
https://slickdeals.net/e/8355911-ms-office-2016-14-99-for-students-and-school-faculty?src=SiteSearchV2Algo

I'm still using it today. 😂. Honestly, what kind of advancements have been done in 7 years in Microsoft Office products? Like the basic ones like Word and Excel?

EDIT: If they have full dark mode Excel, I'd consider upgrading. I'm talking about black cells and white text with a click of a button. In 7 years they were able to at least improve that.... right? Do tell!
Xlookup instead of vlookup and hlookup or index/match is a game changer I hear.

Google Workspace my friend. It is more user friendly than Office 365. Open Office is so 10 years ago. LOL!

Am I that old that seeing comments like "how does this work" referencing the lifetime license. Are we forgetting that before subscriptions, all was a lifetime license? Or has the majority been programmed to think subscriptions are the only way?? Legitimate questions here.

I recommend getting Microsoft 365 Family. Yes, it's $100 for 1year but you can share with up to 6 people and you can use on multiple devices, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.

The free updates don't include upgrades.
IOW, when Office 2024 (or whatever) comes out you don't get to upgrade to it. However, you will still receive security, bug, and critical updates to your Office 2021 for the life of the product (thru Oct 13, 2026).

Also, read the ONE COMPUTER part as something that you control. If a computer that you had this Office 2021 on dies, you are fully able to license the same Office 2021 on a new computer, provided you log into your Microsoft account and remove the old computer activation. It's a full retail license that is fully transferrable - as long as it's only on one computer at a time.

Also², If you already have (or have had) a Microsoft account tied to a subscription Microsoft product (Office365/Microsoft365) Microsoft may not allow you to use that account for perpetual products (although this isn't explained when you try to use it). Just create a new, free Microsoft account and activate it that way. You can use the key you receive for any valid email address (regardless of the email address you enter when purchasing the Office 2021 Pro).
This is very useful info for me. There's a pretty decent chance I'll feel like upgrading my laptop in the next few months, but since my current one is still fairly recent it's kinda 50/50 that I might not.

Detail page says deal is offered by Microsof, and links to https://stacksocial.com/brands/microsoft

Does anyone know whether MS is in fact selling discounted licenses via StackSocial? Or is this some non authorized reseller (like SoftKeyWorld) pretending to be MS?

I am not interested in purchasing from a non authorized reseller to save any amount, even for $1 (that's just me though). I'll gladly pay $49 for a real MS license.

This is a misleading offer. Support expires on 2026, no more updates and you can fall victim to whatever ransomeware that's out there. Unless you want a throwback to the pre-Internet era and buy it at blockbuster.

It doesn't read as misleading to me, at least not with the current title of "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021 Lifetime License."

You get a license to Microsoft Professional Plus 2021 that never expires. The title doesn't suggest that they will support 2021 forever. Even after 2026 when support ends, you could keep using it if you wanted to. If anything, having the year in the title suggests that there will be a newer version one day with a newer year in the title that ISN'T included in this price tag. We would have to buy that new version when it is released.

Edit: This works similarly to earlier permanent Office licenses. We didn't buy Office 2010 thinking that we would one day get Office 2013 for free, or that they would support Office 2010 for all eternity.

We gave up on straight MS office at work. Only a few key people have it, the majority use Libre Office. It's plenty good enough for most people and it's what I use at home. If I need to do work from home, I connect with VPN and then RDP to my workstation in my office.
