And presumably that means that even if you kept your computer indefinitely, at some point the new Office updates wouldn't run on it.

E.g., if your hardware can't support anything beyond Windows 11 so that's the OS you're running, but Office 2025 is only compatible with Windows 12+, you are SoL.

Thankfully I'm on a Mac, and both Apple's office software and LibreOffice are free and do everything I need.
Office doesn't work that way, at least it hasn't in the past. I'm still using excel 2010 on my pc. It does what I need for home use. I've gone thru at least 3 versions of windows with it. Last I checked they still offer a 32bit and 64bit versions. Only thing I don't like is they have really tried to push everything to the cloud.

As long as these keys work for the next six months to a year, I'm good. Nukes will be flying after that and it won't matter.

Xlookup instead of vlookup and hlookup or index/match is a game changer I hear.
From what I'm seeing, index/match is just as capable (if not more) and MUCH faster.

When I worked for a large company, we had a giant spreadsheet that did a ton of VLOOKUPs. This Excel took 6 HOURS to run each week. I converted them to INDEX/MATCH and the Excel processing time dropped to about 15 minutes (on the same computer, of course).

From what I see, XLOOKUP is even slower than VLOOKUP. No thanks.

If you work for a company that has a volume license with MS, you should check and see if they have a plan where employees can buy the software for a huge discount. I have been able to buy the Professional Office version for $10 thru my work for many years. My wife can also buy it thru her employer. Only restriction is, you are supposed to delete it if you leave the company. Not sure how this is enforced since MS doesn't know when you leave. The license is also good on more than 1 pc, I think 3 is the limit.

I bought office back in 2007. I'm tempted to get this upgrade since I hate subscriptions.

We gave up on straight MS office at work. Only a few key people have it, the majority use Libre Office. It's plenty good enough for most people and it's what I use at home. If I need to do work from home, I connect with VPN and then RDP to my workstation in my office.
Does libre office do okay with .xlsx? I can't for the life of me figure out how to open an xlsx file work open office (although I fully acknowledge I'm an idiot).

Tempted to just buy this and be done, but seems iffy. On another thread, people were saying they were gray market licenses.

Still rocking Office 2010 here. Does all I would ever need or want it to.
Same here ... Running Office 2007 on my laptop. It was a free key which I think was one of first deals when I got introduced to SD back in 2008.
