xlookup sounds cool from what I've read. But the most important question that no one has answered yet. Have they invented dark mode for excel? Not a theme but the actual cells turning black and text turning white? I've been using excel late at night recently and let me tell you... it sucks! Thank God for monitors being able to lower down brightness and f.lux helps a little bit. Still too bright. It's 2022 who uses white screens anymore? I haven't seen a white web page in forever.
my excel 365 runs in dark mode, probably because I have it on darked Win 11. Menus and everything are dark, but the grid is regular white

For excel, newer versions have power query, power pivot and power maps. Plus the new function xlookup (like vlookup but better). The power query is similar to Power Bi and allows connections to all kinds of data sources beyond what the data connection provided. You can even query Facebook or web pages in addition to text files and databases.
xlookup is cool, same lookups you can achieve with some other array formulas, such as filter. Cool stuff
Can't live without Power query. Used to connect through ODBC drivers, now is so easy.

I wonder if this version have these functionalities when you update.
People speak about excel 2003, the current excel is a completely different program. 2003 had only 32000 rows IIRC
There is also recently rolled out Lambda function

Few months ago, I purchased one from another seller called TopFastKeys on StackSocial, however the SN cannot be redeemed, fortunately StackSocial refunded me.
I would never try again. Calling my MSFT friend to buy one for me from their company store is more reliable.

Yeah, the older Excel versions can run dark themes. I'm talking about white cells or what you called them the white grid. THAT needs to be black to be a true "dark mode". I guess they still haven't done that. The eye searing white is ridiculous.

What does Microsoft Office have that Libre Office (which is free) doesn't have?
Better support for macros, and that's about it. Libre has problems with some macros in my experience, but it's sufficient for the 99.9% of people that don't need that.

how is this possible, $50 for unlimited office ? So everytime they come out with a new version, you'll be grandfathered in? What's the catch?

I've probably bought 20 MS Office licenses over the years and now I need another. Maybe the next one will be a cracked version.

Excel 2010 will still run, but Microsoft stopped supporting it and offering patches and upgrades [microsoft.com]. At some point though, every computer will reach the point that the hardware can't be upgraded to run the current version of the operating system which means that you won't be able to keep getting upgrades/patches for the software you're running.

And I agree, I hate the 'cloud everything' and subscription models. I don't want to give Microsoft/Adobe/Google my data, and I don't want to pay a subscription fee instead of just buying a copy of the software.
I've upgraded my pc components during that time also. I've gone from AMD to intel and back to AMD plus from a spinning drive, to ssd to nvme. The only thing that hasn't been upgraded is the case. But yes patches can be issues for people. For me it isn't used very often and it always with spreadsheets I create. Now my wife has the most recent versions because she uses other things besides excel and she gets a lot of files from the internet.

You can ask an employee friend to provide an account for you. And there these limited editions are like 20 dollars.
I got office 2019 for my personal laptop for $20. And then that is lifetime till the computer works.
Not anymore since MS switched to Office 365 subscription

Isn't this expensive?
I helped a friend purchased MS Office Pro on eBay for $5 in 2020.
You get an outlook email and password. Once login, you are in some kind of licensing that allows you to install on 5 PCs with Key and download directly from MS. Change the password of the the email account and never use their cloud storage you are set.
Still working and that is worth more than $5.
And you broke the law in the process. Good for you.

All this grey market stuff confuses me. If I buy two of these, one for my desktop and one for my laptop, will I be able to log in to the same account and make edits/changes?
