This and the FHD model both go on sale frequently for this price, so don't jump on it unless you absolutely want it. But before you do, make sure you check out the 2022 model and wait for that one to go on sale. After seeing it on display there's no way I could justify buying this one unless it hit $999 or something.

The performance gap between last year's (this model) and this year's (the one with the Ryzen 6800HS and AMD GPU) is pretty small actually. Probably ~10% difference in performance. And battery life is also very close betwen the two models. The key difference is that the 2022 model has a much better and brighter 16:10 screen and also has a webcam (a crappy one, but beats not having one in this age of video conferencing). Whether that justifies a $400-500 price difference will vary by person.

decent price but i think this is the one thats occasionally discounted to $1200. I heard the upgraded model with the 6900HS is so much more power efficient it adds like 4-5 hours of battery life

No, it doesn't add 4-5 hrs battery life on top of this. More like 1 to 1.5 hrs for real world usage.

(without seeing it firsthand myself, but what I heard) This has to do with additional video decoding built into the new cpu, so it takes much less power for those video codecs. Other workloads, or video codecs it cannot decode efficiently, will use similar CPU cycles to the older generation.

Hardware decoding can be the difference between 100% cpu load, and 5%, and the power load that comes with that.

Something this generation of Asus Gaming laptops missed. No Webcam built in. While it's for gaming o course, I planned to use it for work as well, having to keep an external webcam as well seemed stupid.

i see. i wasn't in the market for a new gaming laptop since my x13 with 3050ti is still decent on the go. so the video review just played in the background while i was doing work. slightly less impressive of an upgrade then. but the change to 16:10 and return of the webcam probably still makes this the best laptop at the moment.

The build quality of this laptop didn't seem that great to me granted the specs are decent. Just my opinion so returned it.

This is the model without the AniMe Matrix display right? I honestly can't tell because Asus and Best Buy use different model numbers.

The new version is a good performance upgrade over this RTX 3060 model in Gaming performance, it is not just the battery life you're hoping for which is almost similar.

The Top end model at $1899 is coming with a Radeon RX6800S graphics with maximum of 100W TGP vs 60W-80W RTX 3060 in this model. So, the gaming performance is way better. On top of that, since both CPU and GPU are now from AMD, this is a part of AMD Advantage platform and supports AMD Smartshift technology. Because of that, the GPU can now run at higher wattage during gaming compared to this version with RTX 3060. Even the lower end model at $1650 with RX 6700S is also faster, although not by much compared to RTX 3060 in this one.
