I removed one of those old dial thermostats and I'm currently using a 7 day Honeywell programmable thermostat. How would I know if I have a C wire? Please and thanks

Your old dial and honeywell programmable thermostat do not need a C wire to work. A C or common wire powers your thermostat and allow your thermostat wifi to connect to the internet. If your Honeywell is fairly new then in the settings, advanced settings there are a few features only available if you have power in your thermostat. Also look in your connections, a C connection should be clearly marked if you have it..

Was going to say, everyone should check their energy provider's website to see if they have any rebates available. I was able to get the entry-level Nest for $5, and my parents had quite a few options in the $10-15 range.

C wire is typically blue. It might be hidden in the wall but unused. It is 24VDC and almost behaves as a ground connected to ductwork.

Rebate says "up to", I imagine that means that is the maximum amount they will reimburse and they would only pay you the $47.99 you pay for the thermostat?

In the Amazon app before ordering it can check what kinda connection you have and will let u know what which one you u need. Right below the price there is a compatible check option if u are using the amazon app to order

Just my experience but I returned this. I tried everything but the Alexa app just wouldn't acknowledge it being connected to the internet. It hooked to my WiFi just fine, my network saw it as connected, but Alexa never thought it was on the network. I went through Amazon's pretty impressive tech support until they just gave up .

The replacement Nest works fine. A lot more expensive but fine.
