Your old dial and honeywell programmable thermostat do not need a C wire to work. A C or common wire powers your thermostat and allow your thermostat wifi to connect to the internet. If your Honeywell is fairly new then in the settings, advanced settings there are a few features only available if you have power in your thermostat. Also look in your connections, a C connection should be clearly marked if you have it..

Was going to say, everyone should check their energy provider's website to see if they have any rebates available. I was able to get the entry-level Nest for $5, and my parents had quite a few options in the $10-15 range.

I'm guessing Amazon still does not allow integration with Google Home for these?

Had one and didn't work well with my AC. I believe there are some reviews specifying what's the issue. I returned and got a nest. Nest thermostat worked with no issues.

You'll like this if you've never used a smart thermostat. However it is lacking in a lot of areas. I replaced my Nest Gen 2 with this in an attempt to move all of my home automation into Amazon devices (Eero, Ring, etc.). I have since returned this and went back to the Nest. You can read through the Amazon reviews for more information.

I have a Honeywell 7 day programmable too. I have a heat pump so many thermostats don't work right with mine. I called Honeywell to see what wireless thermostats were available. They told me that mine is wireless capable and I just needed a Honeywell Redlink gateway. They are less than $25 on ebay. I got it and it works great. You can change Temps on the app. It also works with Alexa. You may want to see if your Honeywell is the same way before changing it if you like your Thermostat but wish it was wireless.

Is this going to listen in on my home conversations like other Amazon products?
Better discard your mobile phone. Also, may want to pick-up a SD on foil hats.

How many time periods per day are possible? My current old-gen Honeywell only has 4 periods but I would like to get a bit more granular with my daily schedule. Thanks!

The original thermostat in my old house did not use a C wire, but when I removed it, there was one wrapped off and tucked back in the wall and I was able to install a smart one. Not sure if that's standard procedure, just passing along my experience.

If you read the information on the product it does not have its own speakers, but if you have alexa products you are already being listened to.

For this prices its a great way to get a smart thermostat into your home.

If you use alexa products already even better as its connects without issues to alexa.

Installation is pretty straightforward and if you have issues call amazon support, they will help or route you to the hardware support which I cannot for the life of me remember the name but they were super helpful. I had a wire crossed wrong and they did some troubleshooting and got it working as expected.

My only issue is that its not smart at all. If you set it for the Home/Away/Sleep like I do it will turn the AC or Heater on without needing to.

By this I mean I have it 68 when home, 78 when away.

If I leave the geo location turns on the away mode which says it needs to go to 78 quickly and burn electricity to heat up the house to 78....defeats the purpose if you ask me.

Gave feedback, hopefully they will update in a future firmware release.

Its honeywell backend hardware so imagine their cheapest product, thats what you got.

C-wire is often blue.
How many wires are running to your thermostat - how many conductors?Usually 4 is the minimum for heat + AC. There may be a fifth wire either connected or loose (but tape off). If it's lose it may have power. If you have an extra wire, and it doesn't have power, you may be able to connect it power from the equipment.

Source: that's what I did on my 22 year old HVAC with 5 wire cable, but only 4 connected.

If you don't have a C wire, you may be able to use an external transformer. That's what I did in my old apartment with no access to the equipment and an Ecobee. You have to make sure you get the phase right.
