For those asking about shuckable and such, I've been able to find the 16TB WD Red Pro and the Seagate IronWolf Pro drives for $300 sporadically over the last few months. If you want a NAS drive, buy a danged NAS drive. If you just want an internal desktop drive, then I can see wanting to shuck, but why play harddrive roulette on what you'll get? I've read that some of these drives are actually nerfed on RPMs as external drives vs their internal counterparts.
I'm all for saving money, but if the cost is negligible, just pony up a few coins for exactly what you want.

And before anyone points out the $285 16 TB Exos on Amazon, those are OEM and don't have a warranty, check the 1 star reviews. Plus, still $35 more expensive.

People shuck these drives. Shucking is the act of taking the drive apart, giving you a nice SATA drive you can use internally.
Now - those who shuck are probably running servers. Servers only have so much room to stuff Hard Drives. If I have 4 bays, I can only fit 4 drives.
So - it's more valuable to me to pay more per TB for a 16TB disk than pay less per TB for an 8TB disk. With the former, I get 64TB maximum space in my rig, but via the latter, I only have half of that, and I can't add any more.
Think about if you're building a garage and you want to keep two cars in it. A single car garage runs $10,000, but a 2-car garage runs $25,000. You would never make the argument that you're paying less per car for the single unless for some reason you're okay with two separate garages on your property AND you have the space for it.
It's the same idea with drives.
