I got this to replace a dying H110. It's a little louder but my temps are roughly the same. The difference is probably negligible. 6700K/4.4Ghz/1.27V, idles ~35C, max ~70C (>1hour). At 100% I can hear the pump at idle, even over my 4 x140 fans push-pull intake. Recommended to set a pump curve; mine starts at 75%.

How reasonably future proof do you think this is? If I buy it now and sit on it for 6 months.

These will last several years, you might have to buy new mounting hardware but we are talking about next socket iteration.

Stuff like this doesn't really advance much if at all IMO like GPU, CPU, ect. But I'd personally just wait till closer to the time you need it to try and find a deal. I've had pumps seize up due to sitting to long. Few pecks freed them up but still.

I own this. It is a good AIO, but you have to change out the fans. They are crazy loud/annoying. Change out the fans to Arctic and this is a good deal.

One other annoying thing I wanted to point out is the pump requires a USB header if you want to be able to control the speed. Some low cost motherboards don't have extra USB headers. If you don't hook up the USB cord to the pump, it runs at 100% all the time.

The reviews I've read say the fans are trash.

Yes, the fans are loud AF. But the noctua ones I replaced them with are silent.

I have had four of these. The pump failed on one, and I figured it out when my computer started randomly shutting down, and running the fans at 100% all the time.

AIOs are great because they can be quieter than a fan cooler. But when it fails, its catastrophic. If the fan fails on your air cooler, it will still work well enough for your computer to keep running.

I have teh 240 and 280, both are great and do a good job cooling. the fans are loud if you don't tune them and you are pushing your processor, or have one that runs hot normally.
but the high rpm fans they include are part of the reason they cool well...as per GN, they can brute force the cooling iwth them. I actually took the fans from that, and swapped them on the the arctic liquid 280 to try and max out my cooling performance

either way,the fans can be swapped out with quieter ones or rgp ones, if you want that.
as to addition future proofing, I think they now sell for $10 a kit to use on the new 12th gen intel socket, so you'll probably be fine.
