Was approved for this card @80K signup bonus a couple weeks ago. Some notes:

This is a great card for anyone who travels or plans to soon travel!
Call your local branch and see if they offer 80K signup + first year fee waived. If you do apply in branch, allot at least 30 minutes for this Frown.
If you have a Peloton membership, note that the Preferred will credit you $60 total off fees, but I think only through June, so act quick!
I didn't get my card after a week, despite a 1-2 day delivery promise. I called in, and they said, oh, whoops, we forgot to ship it! (and they then indeed shipped it 2nd day air via UPS).
You'll get the most value from the 80K points BY FAR by transferring them strategically to airline/hotel partners (most often: United and Hyatt). Do some reading across blogs to learn more.
I know when I applied for this card, I did it in the branch and got a $125 grocery credit incentive. Basically every time I shopped at a grocery store I received a credit back until the $125 credit was maxed…. It may be worth it to call a banker & ask if they have that promo as it was only for in branch applications, not online & worth it to a trip to the bank, if you ask me!
I don't think there's been a better offer on the reserve in many years?

Outside of the SUB the CS > CSP used to be a no brainer, but with the higher AF on the CSR, and the improved benefits/earn on CSP it's a tougher choice now.

Today it's $155 more (removing the travel credit from the price difference) for CSR...

SUPER generously if we count the GE/TSA credit as $20 a year that drops it to $135/yr more for CSR.

For the $135 you get:

Priority Pass (still the good one that includes restaurants unlike Amex)

Marginally better travel insurance coverage

"free" roadside assitance (up to 4 calls a year, max $50 per call)

You do get significantly better purchase protection (10k per claim instead of $500- but then I'm buying most expensive stuff with a Citi card for 2 years of extra warranty anyway)

1.5x for your points in the travel portal vs 1.25 for CSP- but this is rarely a worthwhile use of points for most folks compare to transfers.

10x points (vs 5x on CSP) for cash spend in the travel portal or Chase Dining portals- but those again aren't frequently the ideal way to book for most folks anyway.

So as I say, when this was $35-55/yr it was easy... ONE 2 person use of priority pass at an airport restaurant more than covered this- if you get anything out of any other benefit you're golden.

At $135 it's much more marginal for many.

That old no-fee Sapphire is still a Sapphire. Downgrade that to a Freedom card and then you can apply for the CSP again for the bonus.
How do I downgrade my Sapphire card to Freedom card? Can it be done online or need to call in? Is it easy for them to switch it over to the Freedom card? So right now I also have a Freedom Unlimited too. So I eould need to downgrade to another Freedom card and not the Unlimited one correct?

I guess the one you have is the plain vanilla CSP which has no annual fee and you earn 1% reward points on purchases.

If your last Sapphire bonus was received more than 48 months ago and you have not violated the Chase 5/24 rule, you are eligible again to apply for CSP and get the 80K sign-up bonus. Simply product change your current Sapphire card to any no-fee Freedom card. Once done, you are free to apply again.

80,000 Bonus Points After You Spend $4,000 On Purchases In The First 3 Months From Account Opening: The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.
How can I find out if I got a bonus in the last 48 months on my current Sapphire? How long do I wait after product change of this Sapphire to be able to apply for this offer?

By the way how do I downgrade my Sapphire card to Freedom card? Can it be done online or need to call in? Is it easy for them to switch it over to the Freedom card? So right now I also have a Freedom Unlimited too. So I would need to downgrade to another Freedom card and not the Unlimited one correct?

Applied in branch today, first year is waived if applying in branch vs online.
How much initial credit limit did they offer you? Was the in branch application on paper or computer? Was the process similar to online and pretty fast for approval once you submitted your info?

They gave me a bit lower credit limit than what I would typically get I think, but decent enough I am not worried about it, YMMV on credit limit.

Application was on the computer I had to click a couple digital signature and yes instant approval for me, also YMMV for instant approval.

What has people's experience been with the Chase travel portal? My concern is if their prices aren't as cheap as other travel sites it offsets the incentive of booking directly through them. Thanks.

1. You can find the account opening date on your credit report. Sign up for free credit report from CreditKarma.com if you haven't done so. Add 3 months to the account opening date coz the bonus usually credited within 90 days after the account was opened. Another way is call Chase directly to find out.

2. Product change usually takes 3 to 5 days to complete. "Complete" means your old Sapphire account record will be cleared off on Chase system, so that you are able to apply for a new one. The actual time to have your old Sapphire account cleared off on Chase system is YMMV.

3. You must call Chase for product change since you will need to verify some information with Chase. You can have more than one Freedom card, so downgrading to a Freedom card you've already had is possible.

If my wife is currently listed as UA on my current Sapphire and has a card with her name on it/same account is she also not able to apply for this Sapphire offer either until I downgrade my current Sapphire?

Being an authorized user on another person's Sapphire has no impact on their own eligibility. Your wife should be good to apply now.

Do we have any idea when this offer ends? I would like to go to a branch on Saturday and try to get this without the annual fee but I also don't want to miss out on the deal.

And no issue with her opening a Nordstrom Visa credit card back in 12/2019? That should not affect her approval for Chase product correct?
