Yes, up to 5 years. Protip- buy 4 years of personal and 1 year family. Activate personal codes fist, then the family code will unlock family for the entire 5 years

Awesome. I'll do even better: add 1 month of family for $9.99 and it'll convert everything. This is cheaper than the price difference for personal and family, but only works if you have less than 5 years when switching ("upgrading").

For those currently on a Family plan and nervous about buying the personal version to extended their subscription, here's what I did:

I had a Microsoft 365 Family subscription shared with 3 other family members, paid through August 21, 2023 prior to my purchases today.

I bought 12 months personal with BitDefender + 12 months personal with AVG + 15 months Family with BitDefender. $149.98 total. ($160 or so with tax)

I applied the code for 12 months of personal first.

During the process, because I already have a current family subscription, it asked if I wanted to stay with Family and add 9 months with the code, or switch to personal and add 12 months.

Based on comments, I took the 12 months extension and conversion to personal.

During this process I turned on recurring billing to get the 1 month bonus.

After this process I checked my subscriptions and it had become a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, expiring Sept 11, 2024.

I applied the next 1-year personal product key and that extended it to Sept 11, 2025

Finally, I applied the 15 month Family product key.

This converted the subscription back to Microsoft 365 Family without issue and extended the subscription to December 11, 2026.

I know I could have improved this a bit more by buying 3 of the 1 year personal and then just 1 mo of the Family, but that's ok. This is good enough for me.

Can you explain a bit more please. So I buy 4 of the single user ones right now. I activate all 4 of them today itself. My subscriptions get stacked now I have personal subscription for 4 years. Then I go to my account and change it to monthly family plan today itself and it will change my 4 year personal subscriptions to 4 years of family subscriptions??

Yes. You'll pay 1 month of family at $9.99 to convert the entire 4 years 1 month to family. As long as its below 5 years, it'll work (they cap total stackable time at 5 years).

If you can wait a month, you could buy 5 years of personal now, and in 1 month add 1 month of family for 9.99. Technically nets you a bit better deal but not a huge amount....

I suspect this loophole will get abused and eventually they'll get rid of it though so better to lock in as much as you can now (assuming you are certain you'll need a family license for that long).

At one point you could convert a 1 year family into 18 months of personal but it looks like they've gotten rid of that so similar will probably happen with this.

I don't think its much of a loophole since it is officially mentioned by MS, and is actively giving them 5 years of locked-in subscription so they're probably factoring that in already. The Gamepass 1:1 conversion is still going after several years even after being widely known, so I guess this is in a similar boat. But yeah, guess you never know!

Also how do you get multiple of the 12 month plan since limit is 1? Wait/collect or have multiple accounts?

Anyone figure out how to backup inly video to onedrive? I already have Amazon photos but if I can avoid paying for the additional video storage and only backup video to onedrive and photos to Amazon then I will do that. Wife and I have iPhones

There are several bundles of personal available and you can buy one of each. Most are 39.99 and the nordvpn one is a couple dollars more.

Well the 12 month family convert to 18 month personal was officially mentioned by MS but now it just says it will convert 12 months only....

You can apply the personal subscription to downgrade, stack as much as you want, then convert back to family by adding 1 month of family for $9.99
