Now that gas is back down below $4/gallon many places, I wanted to share imoova, which offers one-way RV relocation rentals for $1/day. I thought it had to be a scam when I heard about it, but we decided to try it during COVID and rented a brand new $100,000 28' camper, picking it up in Chicago, driving out through Denver and the southwest (Grand Canyon, etc) and dropping it back off in Denver (The first photo is one I took in Colorado). They offer basic insurance coverage and sometimes up to $400 in gas (which at 9mpg doesn't get you quite as far as you'd think 😉) and you provide bedding, RV toilet paper, and cooking supplies. Rentals include a certain number of miles and days, and you can purchase extra miles/day if needed. You have to be somewhat flexible with travel dates/destinations based on what is currently available, but it is a fun adventure and you can't beat the price! There aren't a bunch of U.S. rentals available at the moment, but they update frequently, and they also rent internationally. Happy Trails!

Interesting. Might be easier driving this thing one way than taking my RV on a round trip. And cheaper in gas.

El Monte offers deals out of their factory in Illinois, but it's not near any big airports.

Average price of regular gas in always sunny California is $5.73 a gallon. About $2.00 a gallon more than in Texas (as an example).

I see Dallas. You have to click the USA tab. The page defaults to Australia.

Expect to get 6 MPG on these RV's With $6 gas in California, that is $1 per mile. With the 1200 mile distance from Denver to SF and the $250 gas credit, you will still have to shell out of pocket $1000 just for gas. I just rented an RV in California for spring break. It ended up more expensive than renting a car and hotels. FYI.

Ours was a Forest River Sunseeker LE 28', and we averaged 9mpg, which included quite a bit of mountain driving (2x through the Rockies). My only complaints were the cruise control (which would shut off when there was any wind) and lots of road noise in the cab: otherwise it was great.

Some of these are just jobs. Orlando to San Francisco, driving four hours a day. Screw that. People get paid real money for this job, this model is crazy.

One of these is literally just a Grand Caravan they need moved from the West to East coasts. Good lord.

Yeah. I looked at one from LA to Las Vegas. No gas allowance or anything, you have to be on the hook for security deposit and 45c a mile if you go more than a few hundred miles over their estimate.

Sounds like a job to me. Oh wait. You don't get paid.

care to share how many total miles you drove and how much you spent on gas for that?

I'd do Orlando to San Fransico, that trip can be done in 3 to 4 days so 15 days to do it, seems like plenty of time for exploring along the way.

So.. I pay someone to use their RV whilst I do them a favor and drop it off at a far away location?

Whilst also (on some of the ads) paying for a linen set ($55) or a cleaning fee ($59) or use of a tent, air mattress, and sleeping bags ($80).

I think this would have a very specific use case, but the restrictions/rules definitely make it not work it for general use. YMMV.
