I went to the store last month, they asked me to renew with this deal, but to maximize u gotta renew at the end of your subscription

I think you have to get the total to not be $0. So you need a cheap filler item or to buy something more than $5.
You can use it online, but your total has to be more than $5. Some people have used the option to donate $1 to charity to bring total to $6. In store I believe the total can be exactly $5.
