The 825gb is built into the PS5, leaving an empty m.2 slot. When adding an SSD you are adding to that storage, not replacing it.

Can't go wrong with Crucial. This is a great deal for a gen 4 drive considering the speeds. Thanks for posting, I grabbed one.

What do people usually do with the 1TB they removed that came with the PS5? I don't really have a need for an extra drive but do want to upgrade my SSD.

lmao what's with Best Buy and blasting us with 2TB Gen 4 NVMe deals all of a sudden? Yesterday it was the 2TB 980 Pro and now this.

Not that I'm complaining or anything. But the machinations of corporations fascinate me.

Quick note on this: LinusTechTips ranks this as one of the best Tier B (lower high-end) SSDs you can buy.

I'm pretty sure you will need a heat sink for ps5, but those are cheap.

I've seen mixed reviews on this one all over the place. Overall seems like a damn fine ssd. I went with the xpg with the ps5 "heatsink" last week over this in a PC. On a 4.0 m.2 slot, using CDM 7116/6485 with other stuff running in the background (just tested typing this). That's damn swanky. Almost double over my 980, well I remember about 3600 or 3800 reads on the 1gb 980 same system, same exact setup.

I'll bet this crucial gets up there, just make sure your slot isn't shared with other pci-e slots that are in use.

I'm going to say this... If your motherboard supports 4.0, it most likely has a heat sink. If it doesn't, it's an older chip set and probably does not support 4.0. Throughput will probably about 1/2 of rated, but it'll probably a lot faster than what I'm guessing you have right now.

I'd just search ssd ps5 heatsink on amz/goog, probably under $10 bucks. May not be required in your pc if you have good airflow, but I'd read the specs on the cruicial site.
