You need an accessable junction box to splice.

100ft is $84 and 250ft $124 at HD. Even 10 of these is $20ish cheaper than Home Depot's 250 ft spool.

That said, the longer lengths are handy to avoid splicing.

can you splice outside of junction boxes? I believe that is against code although I could be wrong
