Its become an industry norm, shift some of the operation cost for contractors onto the customer instead of the parent company. Its no longer become a reward for excellent service.
Parent company enjoys higher profits from not having to pay contractors (delivery) a reasonable wage.
People defend the practice because the drivers need the money (true). However, the best way to get these drivers paid reasonably would be to stop tipping them entirely, forcing the company to go under from mass quitting, or improve wages. But that wont happen because to many it feels wrong to not tip.
You have to pay with the card from the cashapp app and link "instacart 30 percent off" as your "cashapp boost". Make sure you click to "sign up for instacart express" when you checkout at costco.com. It will ask you to enter a credit card and give you a free 2 month trial (even if you already have instacart, which I do). Its separate and links only to your costco acct i couldnt find out how to add my existing instacart acct. anyway use your cashapp card when you sign up on costco.com for the instacart trial (it will be free and lower price of the cart). Then use the cashapp card again as the payment method for the order. (Need to load $ into your cashapp balance to cover the cost). Once it pays it will automatically give you the extra 30% discount on the cashapp side. In the app it will do it automatically, and when the order completed it charged even less. I paid about $56 out the door.
Shingled. I used to own a few.

That's about right/write. Many people including myself warned others about the slowness of this SMR drive.
And it seems you all were correct, unfortunately. lol

I didn't have my expectations very high, but dang, this is just stupid slow.

Edit: So, I just tried copying from my Toshiba 4TB 2.5" external directly to this Seagate and got write speeds of +130 MB/s. on a 3 GB file.

Any idea why it would then be so slow from my internal SSD?

I copied over 1.3TB and it took about 2.5 hours (maybe ~140MB/s). This is in one stretch copying from another portable Western Digital drive through my 2013 Macbook.
Thanks for sharing this info. I just tried from external to external and got similar results. Very odd, but at least I know the Seagate CAN write this fast...

My understanding is that there is a buffer that is used... so it should work well as long as that buffer isn't filled up. When it fills it will slow down considerably, and the drive will need some time to organize itself and empty the buffer to the SMR area of the disk. So.... if you're copying enough data that it causes the buffer to completely fill then you will experience a significant slowdown but if you're not writing enough data then it won't slow down. 3 GB is probably small enough that it can all be written quickly to the buffer and then copied to the SMR area when the drive is idle.

Same here, 26-28 MB/s transferring 3.5 TB of data. Took over 35 hours to transfer all of it doing it half at a time.
Thanks for replying. It seems I just fixed the problem on my end. I just transferred a 6.7GB file over to the Seagate in 20 seconds from my internal SSD. I'm getting between 150-170 MB/s write speeds. CrystalDiskMark is now reporting 188.75 MB/s write speed vs the previous 28 MB/s.

If you're using Windows, you need to change the "Removal Policy" setting on the Seagate drive to "Better Performance". You can do this through Windows' Device Manager >>Disk Drives >> right-click on Seagate drive >> Properties >> Policies tab >> select Better Performance.

Yes, this helps... but the drive will still slow down considerably when its write buffer gets full.

Thanks for the reply.

I just found a solution, so at least I'm getting decent speeds. I had to change the "Removal Policy" from "Quick Removal" to "Better Performance". Now I'm getting testing write speeds of 188MB/s--a 617% increase from before!! Groupwave

Probably not... unless this is cheaper and you're considering price.

What membership are you talking about? The Costco membership $60 will only auto-renew if you signed up for the auto-renew service. I don't think there is any other membership required when using this Same Day Costco service.

Yeah I was wondering if it was instacart membership that's set to renew if you order something this way. $79 is not the cost of normal membership and executive is $120. If I get charged for instacart membership I'll be pissed.

instacart membership
tl;dr-- The $79 Instacart EXPRESS membership only applies for those who signed up for the 2-month "free" trial to get an additional discount, and even so, one can just cancel it before the 2 month trial ends and not pay anything.

As far as I can tell, there was no required Instacart membership sign up or any obligatory annual membership renewal language in this Costco deal. Can you point to where this is mentioned anywhere?

Are you referring to this specific deal, or a Costco/ Instacart purchase you made in the past where your annual auto-renewal takes place next month? I don't understand how anyone who bought this hard drive would have an Instacart membership, which I don't think I signed up for, renew a couple months after the initial purchase.

Please provide specifics on your Instacart membership that is auto-renewing and whether it was due to getting this particular hard drive deal.

From what I can tell, the $79 may refer to an Instacart Express membership bought through Costco, and I think that's completely separate from this deal.

EDIT: In other words, are you saying that everyone who got this deal will now be charged $79 every year starting next month?

EDIT 2: Here is a link to info regarding linking an Instacart Express account to your Costco account, which seems to activate a free 2-month Instacart Express membership--which may convert to an annual $79 membership after the initial 2 months:

https://www.instacart.com/help/se...7063889172

The question is, are all the people who got in on this deal enrolled in the "trial" 2-month Instacart Express account?

EDIT 3: I've attached a screen shot of this Costco/Instacart Express page:

https://sameday.costco.com/instacart-express

It seems to show that if you sign up for Instacart EXPRESS you do get 2 free months and a 7% discount, and then after that you are charged $79/year. But it appears one must actively subscribe to that Express membership in order to be charged the $79.

AND, it appears you can cancel at any time--and it looks like if you cancel Instacart Express before the 2 months, you are not charged anything at all? Right???

There was an ADDITIONAL $30 off with Instacart and Cash app.
