Damn no 4k uhd yet? It shows movies available on uhd, but not available at any kiosk
Yeah, before COVID they were expanding their 4k markets, however when Hollywood shutdown that was the beginning of the end for Redbox. That's when I quit working for them. They recently just laid off a large number of employees and have cut their network down pretty consistently over the past 18 months.
It's a shame because 4k is arguably the only thing that could keep them useful for most people, since 4k streaming isn't as impressive.
Redbox switched to a different card swipe method that made the self-serve kiosks even more klugey to operate. I haven't used in a long time even though Redbox is paying customers to shop.
There's actually one b-and-m video rental store left in my town, but it stays open only because it caters to deep-dish movie buffs who want to see foreign films like Truffaut or Fellini in the original languages, or outre' directors like Lynch and Cronenberg.
Those new card readers were required unfortunately. They not only were more annoying but far less reliable outdoors.
It definitely seems to be limited, though I have yet to find a list of eligible items:
"Valid for stated discount off the fee for a 1 night rental of an eligible disc."
I tried it on 'The King's Man' and it didn't work, though I, too, was offered $1 off of the rental of that movie instead. I suspect that it will only apply to items that are not newer releases.
I don't know if it's because we use the tmobile tuesday free codes or these codes are only good once a year or six months, but lately it only offers me $1 off stating that the movie I selected is only eligible for $1 off but I tried old movies and several different ones and it says the same thing this time around. I had that happen before as well. Last time the tmobile code did that, I signed up for an account for my dad and it still only offered $1 off no matter which movie I put in the cart.
I'd rarely use redbox even if all the movies were free. They don't get any good movies anymore. They get the stuff that flopped at the box office. I feel like the studios got together to keep top films off redbox. Which is a shame.
The Kiosks were everywhere at one time. Cant recall last time seeing one.
That and cant recall last time i owned a dvd player .
Manly for people that have surround sound theaters or setups and want to utilize its capacity. Streaming doesn't give u full audio format that blu ray discs give
Warning on Redbox. They charged me $33 for not returning a movie although I did. Another time they billed me for a 2nd day when I returned it within 24 hours.
If you are not paying attention they will slide in the charges. They remind me of how Blockbuster use to capitalize on this as their main revenue stream.
If you have bought their stocks I suggest dumping it as it looks like they are looking at other means of making their ends meet to be profitable.
