His tools are the logic of Aristotle, the theology of Aquinas, the empirical insights of Roger Bacon—all sharpened to a glistening edge by wry humor and a ferocious curiosity. Umberto Eco's first novel, an international sensation and winner of the Premio Strega and the Prix Médicis Étranger awards

When his delicate mission is suddenly overshadowed by seven bizarre deaths, Brother William turns detective. "Like the labyrinthine library at its heart, this brilliant novel has many cunning passages and secret chambers . . . Fascinating . . . ingenious . . . dazzling." – Newsweek

Only 472 pages? In 11th grade it felt like a little over 17,000.
You'll enjoy it if you like murder mysteries, history, and reading Wikipedia for fun. The story is fairly straightforward (though creative) but the setting is presented with a depth of detail that will be delightful for some and excessive for others. I have heard people accuse Eco of being overly serious and stuffy, but he really isn't. Once you get into the flow you'll find a steady line of snarky wit underlying much of the seemingly superfluous complexity.

Eco is one of the greatest writers of his generation. Admittedly not for everyone but the detail he puts in his books, the amount of historical research it must have required, is impressive. Also loved the movie with Sean Connery though I probably shouldn't have seen it at the age that I did Wink

Call me a dork, but I love the irony for "Name of the Rose" as an ebook

The book is an excellent read, so I guess the audio will be an excellent listen. The movie? Meh, not so much (acutely disappointing, in fact.)

Oh, what a great deal. I'll buy! Amazon: "You purchased this book in 2015." Me: "Cool. Definitely will read it someday."

This is one of the best novels I ever read. It's kind of a tough read at points but it's entirely worth it.
