I still have it to this day… I have left it out in the elements for months, I've run it over with a lawnmower (there's a chunk missing) , and Ive used it for various household/automotive tasks and it still works fine.
Point being… I agree that low cost mallets will likely work just fine. They do leave a black mark on the thing you're hitting, but usually I'll put a scrap piece of wood over what I'm hitting and whack the wood to prevent scuffs.
This seems like a decent buy if you need various sizes
Main issue I can see is the rubber falls off the wood. I would think some epoxy would fix that for a cheap fix

You can use the rubber mallet to fix the quarter panel if you miss.
