I have this laptop and I like it. Dual boot with Linux 21.04

My criteria:
1. Needs to be fast.
2. Noiseless when handling moderate load - chrome with maybe 20 tabs open with a few IDE windows.

Performs well for those needs.

The hinge is a bit tight and the mouse pad is not firm - compared to my MBP that I had earlier. But that was $1749 and this is $649

This CPU is 6 core vs the 4 core on the Dell and seems to do better on benchmarks (although they are not prevalent). I have seen both in person and frankly the Ideapad Pro has a better build quality. The Dell has the faster and more power efficient RAM that wake09 mentioned but it just doesn't have as nice a feel to it. It depends on how you use the laptop but the screen on this has better resolution, is slightly larger, and is touchscreen. The reviews are better for the Lenovo on the Costco site.

Picked up at a warehouse yesterday and it's been good so far. Impressive build quality for the price. But the specs appear to understate the weight - it's given as 3.04 lbs, my kitchen scale says 3.26. Not a huge deal, but I've never seen nearly a 1/4 pound of difference between specs and the scale before. I suspect they measured 3.04 with a standard 1080p display, but the 2K is heavier.

Which is the Costco laptop that has 400 nits and I think even higher resolution, and how does it compare to this one? I think it's an HP (Envy?).

Yep, 5600U has better single core performance: https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-com...en-5-5600u [nanoreview.net]

I bought this last time around and no regrets. Updated the WiFi card easily for $30. The screen is amazing. The only downsides for my purposes compared to the yoga: 1) I prefer fingerprint reader to IR camera which needs to read your face at just the right angle 2) does not rotate 360 degrees.

But the added costco warranty makes this the better deal IMO.
How do you upgrade the wifi? And can you upgrade the NVMe drive or add a second one, or add an SSD easily on this one?

That's an easy $20 upgrade.

One of the best thing about this laptop is the 16:10 screen. This will hopefully become the new norm.
I remember in mid 2000s laptops had 16:10 screens. IIRC in the late 2ks they switched to 16:9

Just be sure to upgrade the bios, 100 models have the potential for malware to be installed on those Lenovo models that cannot be removed.

Turn off the computer and take off the back cover and upgrade away. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will be the same chip. Yes you can upgrade the storage if you want. YouTube is your friend if you've never done it before but it's easy.

This unit has 2 SSD slots, One drive, up to 512GB M.2 2242 SSD or 1TB M.2 2280 SSD. If 2280 is used, then you can find another drive for the 2242 slot.

I have the 4700U version (non-touch 14", 1080p display, no IR camera) which comes with the 512GB 2242 SSD, which has Kali Linux. I installed the 1TB Samsung SSD in the 2280 slot and it has Windows 11. Boot manager lets me select which OS to load at start-up. Nice to have this option if you're in IT and want access to different OS's instead of running VM's.

You will need to buy the NVME drive screw as it does not come with any extra or spare.

I paid $600 for mine last year. So for this, it's a good deal at $650.

Curious if this laptop with these kind of specs is enough to run Paradox games reasonably like Stellaris, Crusader Kings 2/3, etc.

Thanks. I've upgraded laptop hard drives before but I didn't know which slots this one has or whether they're soldered in or not.

Looks like the wifi is easy to upgrade to the AX200NGW for $20!

Cool. This already has NVMe ssd so unless you just wanted more space switching it out isn't going to make the computer any faster.
