Mine just arrived and I paid the $100 from earlier, it's not the fastest but the hub is great for attaching other externals to transfer DATA on it for PC platform. I just unloaded 4.5 TB from another drive and it transferred average about 125-140 MB/s. Much faster than going UBS to USB on PC because most the time the USB ports seem to share the same bandwidth.

If I knew it was this useful I would have purchased one for each computer to have dedicated hub just to exchange files between USB drives.

It's not a no brainer IMO. Folks are reporting a 5400 HDD and SMR. SMR is the newer "tech" that allows manufacturers to cram more TB per area vs standard CMR drives. The trade off is that the write heads have to have idle time to reorganize the data.

Like another has said, this thing will eventually CRAWL with normal use. Unless you're looking at this for some cold storage - which it's obviously not being marketed as, then I'd pass.

edit: The below is wrong info. I order this 8tb firecuda hub. Crystaldisk shows it as a 5400 drive (read ~190, write ~170, so not horrible)... Sorry if anyone was misled... I was too.

https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/sea...gaming-hub

This drive is 7200rpm and has read/write speeds nearly double to most tested 5400rpm drives, according to this review. I believe the drive you linked is 5400rpm.

This is pretty tempting for a nice 8TB external with decent 3.2 compatability... but the bottleneck will be the 7200 rpm platter HDD. Seems the 3.2 spec may just be for marketing as you'll still be stuck with a max of 120 MB/S. Then again, you're not getting any type of SSD at this size or price point.
Since 'planned obsolescence' is an increasing concern in data storage; keeping spin drives as solid backup is becoming more of a necessity - especially when backups can overlap with more rewrite access that 'trusted' ssd solutions are better suited for.

After losing vital data your first time in these metrics; spin physics still looks pretty damn-good.

Now I gotta remember to fit in barrel twists so I don't become too stagnant as an armchair quarterback...

Is the 120mb per second for transferring small files or a big file? Thanks.

What is the benefit of this FireCuda vs the Seagate 8TB Game Drive Hub for Xbox One (https://www.gamestop.com/gaming-a...653.html)?
Firecuda drive is 7200rpm drive, the other is a 5400rpm drive.

Bigger files generally have a high per/s but it all depends on how much activity you have running on USB (in general. Unless you have multiple USB controller cards which is Rare)

The only place I'm seeing 7200rpm mentioned is a pcmag review of the 16tb version. Even the seagate datasheet does not reference rpms.

A user on Reddit however claims to have shucked an 8tb one and found a barracuda (not pro) which is smr and 5400rpm

I just paid the 138 yesterday and opened mine. I wonder if GameStop will give me the difference?
They will, I purchased two few days ago, did chat session with them earlier, they refunded me $40, they'll ask for the link and order number.

The actual one that comes in the mail is the updated one. Is there still a difference?

The actual one you get is not the same in that photo, the one that comes in the mail is the updated one. I received this one.

I bought the previous deal which had a picture of a white drive, similar to the PS5. I got one that looks like this one but with a green LED. Works great. Just bought this one as well. Thanks OP!

Download CrystalDiskInfo and show us the info on the drive.

I found this review from November 2021. It wasn't a 7200 RPM drive.

https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews...index.html

ST8000DM004 is a SMR drive.

I ordered one. I tried to get it from Best Buy with a price match but theirs is one letter off in the item number so they refused.

Also, a reddit user supposedly shucked the drive and said they found a Seagate Barracuda ST8000DM004. Not sure if this is a 7200RPM drive, but was able to confirm it's definitely a SMR drive. Hope this helps someone.

edit: The review I listed doesn't mention the drive RPM, but does mention it's read write speed and throughput. They used Black Magic.

Thanks for heads up on that….I ordered this one, saw your comment and hopped back to GS and ordered that xbox 8tb drive as well. If they are sending the new updated one that is a great deal for 99 bucks. Worth the shot at getting the new hdd like others did.
