High quality, organic garden mix that I've been using in containers for years. Compressed and needs to be fluffed before use. No wood chip filler, fungus gnats or other trash that you'll find in Miracle Gro or other readily available mixes. Brickseek shows some stores selling for $9.00. Haven't found any by me, but Home Depot will price match at $11.84.

The bad news: this isn't actual soil. As the product site says, it's peat, perlite, coir, and a few extras. You can mix it with a lot of topsoil for raised beds and vegetable gardens, but don't use it as a replacement for topsoil.
The good news: pro mix is awesome, miles better than Miracle-Gro, Vigoro, etc., and you can trust the instructions, guidance, info on the bag and product site to be useful, not marketing garbage. I've used lots of pro mix products, and never had bad results with them.

You can use garden soil as potting mix but generally not the other way around.
It's vice versa. Garden soil doesn't drain as well as potting mix, so you normally don't use it in containers/pots. This product is closer to potting mix and drains extremely well. At $6/ft³ for organic potting mix, this is a very good deal.

I don't think you know what you're talking about. Potting soil almost always contain peat moss and/or coconut coir as major ingredient which is not good for garden because it absorbs water like a sponge so it doesn't drain good.

I wrote up a very long and wonkish response to this, but deleted it in favor of saying that using topsoil or peat-based "garden soil" in containers is a really bad idea. Their particle sizes are far finer than potting mix, resulting in higher water retention and higher likelihood of a perched water table.

The recent bags i have gotten of this have a lot of sticks and large wood pieces in them some with thorns. I still use it and its been great for my containers (i just remove the wood pieces) but just know that the newer bags seem to have alot more wood pieces than in the past.
After wetting and fluffing i find that a bag usually comes out to be around 1.5 cu ft not the 2 cu ft one might expect. Your mileage may vary but that's what i have found in three bags i have used this season. All that said i wish this would have been the price when i was buying it earlier in the season as i think i paid closer to 15 at depot a couple months ago. I will likely get more in the future as it really does great for me in containers, wicks the water up from the bottom nicely in self watering ones and holds onto the water nicely in a large regular pot.

Wood pieces really shouldn't be in potting mix. I have 8 bags that I'll need to investigate. If it's not the same stuff, I'm writing a strongly worded email to corporate. They are a Canadian company, so hopefully they care.

Most likely confusing wood to Coco coir husks/chunks. Promix uses coarse grain coir. Sometimes it's not fully shredded.

For example, the 3.8cu ft bales are compressed, and fluff out too about 6cu ft of mix
edit: looks like its 1cu ft compressed. In which case this is not really a good deal at all unless you only need a single bag. Pretty much everywhere in america you can get 3.8cu ft bags of compressed promix for ~$35. The secret is to find farm/feed stores that carry it and not grow(cannabis) stores, the grow stores charge way more.

Edit: I found the product details on their site states garden soil. It says for "containers" which I considered to be like pots, though.

This seems like the consumer version of promix HPCC.
