It's $4.97 in Manhattan, which still seems cheap if you have a use for it & can lift it. But has anyone used this for cat litter boxes? I've never heard of this for use with cats.

No it's not cat litter. It's just plain ole sand. It won't clump or absorb odor. The cats probably won't care, but you will.

I just bought some of this today. I would be careful. They had some that came in some new plastic bags and the same bags that they have had for years. The new plastic bags said they were 50lbs but they were noticably lighter than the old bags and when put side by side it looked to be only about 80% of the sand as the old bag and didn't look like the filled it all the way. I couldn't find a scale to weigh it but I seriously doubt the new bags were 50lbs.

Not saying it wasn't, but could it have been wet vs dry? These are weighed at the factory bone dry but are shipped semi-exposed and often get very waterlogged. Not an expert but I worked in a HW store for a few years and unwrapping wet shrinkwrap covering dirt and sand was not fun.

Maybe, I didn't get any of the new bags to see how dry they were. The old bags seemed pretty dry when I opened them up.

The sand you mentioned is not at all good. Very course. It looks like that's crushed Stone than sand. Leaves white dust residue on your hands. It should not be labeled as a play sand and at all.

Last year I purchased 10 bags and had to go through the hassle of taking them all back to the store to return
