Laptops are way oversold because of everyone buying in 2020. Very few people have a pressing need for a new PC right now. Discretionary/luxury tech spending is way down because of inflation, even though supplies might be inconsistent. Plus 12th gen is hitting the market. This is a killer machine for $650, but in the current market it's hard to say if it's a killer deal.

Very impressive! Right out of the box a winner. Acer has someone that really thinks things through with this config.
Lately these Sub $700 deals have improved.
Based on most laptop threads, I am going to predict FP and absolutely no whining about this one.
Thanks for your efforts, as always.

The i7-1185g7 MSI Prestige 14" was $680 last month and I passed on it then. Very similar aside from size.

I'm not talking about spending on *luxury* goods - I'm sure assclowns are still buying Macbooks and Teslas like theres no tomorrow. I'm talking about discretionary spending. People whose rent went up $200 a month and fuel costs went up $100 are less likely to replace their 4 year old laptop with this Acer.

I also love that this laptop series has the metal frame... impressive specs and a great price. I recommend that the OP post this feature in the thread, as I think it's an attractive addition.

We have the 14" version of this for my wife... it's been great, and hers is seriously light. Not bad for a low-cost laptop. I just wish they'd do an AMD CPU, as I prefer them (cost, better iGPU, etc) but this is a great deal for sure.

I'd say it's a pretty killer deal since there's no other comparable laptop with these specs at this price, and not sure there has ever been for an 11th Gen Core i7. Also, while inflation is high, it's way too soon to be affecting luxury spending. Those with discretionary luxury spending aren't feeling the effects of inflation yet - it takes quite a while for the cumulative effect of inflation to make a noticeable impact on those particular wallets. That's why vacation planning and travel is still through the roof right now.

Some really bad reviews on Amazon. Anyone using this personally? I am looking for a laptop and was considering this but not rethinking looking at the Amazon reviews.

Is that a 16:10 aspect ratio, or a 16:9 aspect ratio? 16.1" makes me think it would 16:10, but I'm not sure.

Sadly no. 1080P full HP means 16:9. You've found the kryptonite on this deal. A taller display would make this awesome, especially because Windows 11, in their infinite stupidity, has make the task bar taller, taking up more space, PLUS they've made it impossible to move the task bar to the side. Or maybe they're smart? As some have mentioned it's hard to sell new systems at this point in history, but I personally have bought two laptops recently, just to get a 16:10 aspect ratio!

There are multiple solutions to this. I dislike Windows 10 and 11 interface. You could use classic shell or Startisback or others. I am using Startallback

W11 is for tardos.

I've been running the task bar on the side since 16:9 became a thing. On my office dual setup I run the taskbar at the top of a side portrait monitor.
