Better deal than the Newegg deal from last month (https://slickdeals.net/f/15673525-eufy-security-solo-indoorcam-c24-2-cam-kit-2k-security-indoor-camera-59-at-newegg?src=SiteSearch)

With Wyze's subscription crap, I'm dumping their cameras and moving over to Eufy

I don't know about this camera specifically but most night vision cameras achieve their abilities by using IR lights and those generally don't work well through windows because they reflect right off of the glass and prevent the camera from seeing through it.

This is correct. The Eufy camera has IR lights for night vision. If you have double pane windows, the lights reflect causing distortion. If you have single pane, you can press the camera against the window and it works.

You can also turn off night vision and put an IR light outside, but if you are smart enough to do that then you probably figured this out before reading this comment.

These are good cameras fwiw.

Anyone use these as motion sensors for homekit? I was wondering if I could drop one of these to look at my front door, and trigger my lights when it detects activity. Also: how good is the night vision? Is it good enough to point it out a window for outdoor surveillance at night?

Either way grabbing a couple of these. I'll at least point one at my water heater to use as a visual backup for my water leak detector when we travel

I'd caution using it for this because unfortunately homekit by itself isn't quite smart enough to determine logic based on that, I had to turn off the automation for my solo c24 mounted outside because the "turn" on would work fine, but turning off, that counted as "activity", so the light would turn back on, then off, then on, you can kinda of see where this is going. You may have better luck with your attempt, but its probably better to use PIR or something else for motion and lights.

As another SDer said, night vision will will not work through glass. We have a couple positioned indoors at windows that work for us only because we've turned off the night vision and have motion lights (they sell like 4 for $20 for solar LED motion lights that just stick on the wall) in the area of interest.

If you want more contrast at night from indoors you can leave night vision on but use electrical tape to cover the IR LEDs, so the camera switches on the high contrast filter. We have one mounted with lens flush to the window with some cardboard flush to the glass around the camera to block any glare at night.

Ordered! Does anyone have a favorite outdoor security cam that works with HomeKit? It appears the eufy outdoor ones don't have HomeKit options.

If I only plan on using this to view live, do they still need SD cards to operate? Thanks.
