No surprise, but all of these are polyurethane, aka plastic uppers.

Yeah, no-name shoes (Alfani is the Macy's house-brand), with pleather uppers? These are probably only worth $15 to begin with. No way are these worth the $70 "retail" that Macy's is claiming.

Fun fact, since it's their own house-brand, Macy's can claim that the MSRP is whatever they want it to be. They could claim that these have a $800 MSRP!!! if they really wanted to.

I guess it depends what they need. I basically expect 3-6 mos out of a fake boot, even at $70. My Red Wing 415s I got used 2 years ago, still only about 1/2 through the sole. They will clean them for free (and even put on new laces last time). Resoling is $100 in a year or two; the uppers are great. My other Red Wings, Iron Rangers, are kinda dressy and live a much easier life and I expect them to last forever, but that was a $400 investment.

I need basic boots and order five. After seeing no return information, I called customer service trying to cancel and was told I had to wait for the item to arrive. I explained the last call policy they had on their website, and this was what the representative said and emailed me.

"Per our conversation about two items that you wanted to have removed from the order. The return policy for last act is for online only; you can return the items online with a return shipping label for a full refund."

These boots look nice, are dirt cheap, and are relatively comfortable. Will they last a year? Probably not but at this price, that's a couple bucks a month. Not great for the environment, but that's pretty screwed already. Not everyone has $300 to drop on a decent pair of well made leather boots.

If you can't afford a fairly minor investment on something that will easily last you 10-15+ years (and you aren't required to pay full MSRP)... You probably shouldn't be buying in the first place.

I don't understand throwaway culture. Instead of buying once and buying correctly, you're buying many times over and at no point getting the same quality experience. It makes me scratch my head

This I had a pair of Red Wings lasted 10 years (non-trade environment, just territory salesperson). The soles gave out and unfortunately it was a style they couldn't resole but the uppers still looked fantastic after all that time. Buy quality instead.
