Any reason why? Genuinely curious because we're in the market for a new washer/dryer.
Hard to maintain for front load and easily moldy.

I have a front load Samsung washer and dryer now for just over 4 years and they are both used every single day. Never had an issue with either one but do feel lucky as so many have had problems. I use liquid detergent in small dose or a pod and leave the door open after use for a day. Never had any issues with smell or mold and I never run anything through the washer to clean it. Would I buy Samsung again? Probably not as I do hear about all the issues they have!

I wouldn't recommend Samsung. I have an older front loader and what is called a spider arm wore out, bacially it's an arm that attaches to the back of the drum and spins the whole thing around with the motor. Well the issue is that arm was made out of aluminum, and the drum was made out of steel, and due to galvanic corrosion the arm basically disintegrated into dust until the washing machine would damn near shake itself apart when running.

I feel that the engineers should have known about the effects of dissimilar metals, and oddly enough the failure happened right after the warranty expired. 🤔

In any case, I ordered a new spider arm, watched a few YouTube videos, got it coated and insulated and installed it myself. It's starting to shake again but this time I think it's the more common spring/suspension that holds the drum up that may be the problem.
You should have replaced the bearings and the seal while you had it apart...
I just replaced those on my 15-year-old Bosch NEXXT 500 machine. What a chore, but it should be good for many more years to come.

I did replace the front seal but as for the other stuff I didn't even know what to look for as far as preventative maintenance goes, I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future though 👍

Front load washer is the way to go. All things held the same, they use significantly less water per cycle than top loaders. Less water = less energy bill as well since you aren't pulling in as much hot water from your water heater. All around cheaper to operate on an ongoing basis.
Those are certainly important considerations. A side effect of that is that you also need less detergent so that ends up saving some money over the long term.

Performance wise frontloaders are the best compromise between cleaning ability and the longevity of your clothes. Top loaders with the agitator do the best job at cleaning, but they are pretty rough on your clothes. High Efficiency top-loaders without the agitator in the middle use less water and are more gentle on your clothing, but don't clean nearly as well. With a front loader you use less water and detergent plus the clothes tumble over each other - that action helps clean the clothes much better than a HE top loader without being as rough as a top loader with an agitator.

As far as mold and everything goes... that's more of a problem in homes where the washing machines are stacked together in a tiny closet. If you just leave the door open and shake out the detergent tray after you're done with all the laundry, it dries out completely. Then you just have to clean out the filter every now and then to make sure it doesn't get clogged up (which I see as a good feature).

We haven't had our samsung units too long, but so far so good. The LG's look sexier with the flat glass door and maybe it'd be nice to have Wifi to know when a wash/dry cycle is done, but with discounts and such the LG pair ended up being significantly more expensive... like $800-1000 more

For cleaning performance. This Samsung clothes washer model is WF45T6000AP, which is listed as an Energy Star most efficient product.

https://www.energystar.gov/produc...ls/2354715

While normal Energy Star clothes washers are only subject to water and energy efficiency tests and standards. To qualify for the Most Efficient designation, the product also has to perform well on a cleaning test.

For what it's worth, there are more front loader most efficient products (good energy efficiency, good water efficiency, and good cleaning performance) than top loaders; 56% to 44%.

I can't comment on this specific set or anything, but it will be a cold day in hell before a Samsung appliance finds a place in my house.

Lots of horror stories about Samsung's poor customer service and warranty coverage for their appliances. There are even investigative news reports on it. Yikes.

Nor Frigidaire. Owned a front load set from them....lasted 5 years until the washer's control board "died". Cheap caps, etc.

Now own a Whirlpool set...Duet Steam. Have had it 9 years. Never failed to operate.

Actually, everything I've read about cleaning puts the front loaders well above conventional top loaders for cleaning efficiency with HE top loaders almost reaching the cleaning ability of front loaders.
