Costco has similar extension cord for $30, but I think I will get the 50ft 12/3 extension cord with 4-outlet circuit-breaker reel at Costco for $60

Would this be of sufficient guage for safe Level 1 EV charging at home inside a garage?

Why is this only rated for 15 amps if it's 12 guage? Accounting for voltage drop?

The plug and socket are the limiting factors.

For 20 amp you need 5-20P.

My guess is because it has 15a ends. That or they are just being conservative.

I would say no. I would look up the charging voltage and amps for your car. Then look up the gauge of wire you need. My home charger is 220v at 40amps, which is 8 gauge wire. This wire would catch on fire.

You want to try and avoid an extension cord with a charging cable do you not have the space to pull in the car and charge it?

Level 1 sure. A bit long though.

I did this while visiting my BiL through the garage door. I used the mobile connector to charge my Model X... it's slow - but we weren't going much of anywhere, just lounging at the house, so it worked.

Pro tip - do not use it coiled up. unwind it when in use.

I cut my old extension cord oddly enough a few hours ago trimming bushes and thankfully grabbed this before it died.
